Leaders of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and Department of Education and Training congratulate teachers and 2 students who won international awards.
On the afternoon of May 21, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Dung and the Board of Directors of the Department of Education and Training were present at Tan Son Nhat Airport to welcome and meet the delegation of teachers and students of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted who had just won second prize at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2024 in the US. The competition took place from May 11 to 17 with the participation of students from 64 countries and territories.
At the meeting, Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training, Head of the delegation of students from Ho Chi Minh City participating in the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), said that during the preparation for the competition in the US, the delegation encountered many problems with paperwork. The most regrettable thing was that the instructor could not accompany the students. However, overcoming many difficulties, the two students confidently demonstrated their abilities in the international arena, achieving proud achievements for the education sector of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the whole country in general.
Ho Chi Minh City leaders awarded certificates of merit to 2 students of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted.
Accordingly, two students of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Nguyen Le Quoc Bao, class 12CA and Le Tuan Hy, class 12B, authors of the project Deep Learning Integrated Software to segment and reconstruct the monolithic heart structure in 3D simulated space for medical practice applications. This project won second prize in the System Software category and a special 4th prize awarded by the American Association for Information Technology. This is also the only team of the 2024 Vietnamese delegation participating in the competition to win an award.
According to Mr. Minh, the achievement of the two students from Ho Chi Minh City is also the only second prize of the Vietnamese delegation after 12 years since a group of 11th grade physics students from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School won first prize in the international science and technology competition in 2012 with the topic of Treating salt water using vacuum technology and solar energy.

Meeting and sharing with the group of students from Ho Chi Minh City who won international awards, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung said that this achievement not only affirms the students' efforts in studying and the school's investment in teaching, but also the process of the education sector constantly innovating, creating an environment for students to study and gain practical experience.
In particular, the Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee highly appreciated the investment efforts and humanistic significance of the project participating in the contest; hoping that Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in particular and the city's education sector will continue to develop in this right direction, focusing on developing high-quality human resources, contributing to the overall development of the city.
At the welcoming ceremony and meeting with students this afternoon, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, on behalf of the city government, presented certificates of merit from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to two students Nguyen Le Quoc Bao, Le Tuan Hy and teacher Do Quoc Minh Triet, the teacher who directly guided the students in implementing the project.
