Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs Bui Quang Duong informed that Ha Tinh currently has two religions recognized by the State, Catholicism and Buddhism, with more than 192,000 followers (accounting for 14.2% of the province's population). The province has 370 places of worship and 168 dignitaries. In addition, there are a number of Protestant followers at home and other religions that have not been recognized.
Most of Ha Tinh people are influenced by Buddhism and follow folk beliefs. Religious activities in the province are increasingly diverse but stable, orderly, purely religious; taking place within the framework of the law.
Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs Bui Quang Duong delivered the opening speech at the conference.
With the timely and specific leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels and the close coordination of relevant agencies, the Party and State's religious policies and guidelines have been properly implemented; followers, dignitaries and monks of all religions are assured and excited to practice their religion and care for economic development; the great national unity bloc has been consolidated; political security and social order in religious areas have been maintained.
However, religious activities still have some issues that need further attention, such as: registration of religious activities of dignitaries in religious organizations; activities of some "strange religions"; hostile forces always find ways to entice, entice and take advantage of religious, ethnic, democratic and human rights issues to sabotage the State, especially related to land and construction of religious works; the religious work team has not really kept up with the situation and trends, and is still confused in advising on handling issues arising at the grassroots level...
During the one-day period, delegates will be informed by officials from the Government Committee for Religious Affairs about the situation of beliefs and religions in Vietnam; the State's viewpoints and policies on beliefs and religions; and some current legal regulations on beliefs and religions.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Dinh - Head of the Legal Department - Inspector of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs directly communicated issues related to religious and belief work at the conference.
Along with that, the conference focused on analyzing and clarifying the difficulties and shortcomings in implementing current policies and laws on beliefs and religions; solutions for implementation and expected contents of the draft decree replacing Decree No. 162/2017/ND-CP dated December 30, 2017 detailing a number of articles and measures to implement the Law on Belief and Religion.
The conference is an opportunity for officials and civil servants working in the field of beliefs and religions in the area to grasp information and the situation of beliefs and religions; share and exchange experiences to remove difficulties and obstacles, and better perform their assigned duties and tasks.
