Tran Quyet Chien lost the opening match.
Tran Quyet Chien and Tran Thanh Luc were specially assigned to appear from the final round (32 players) of the 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup Sharm el Sheikh 2024. Quyet Chien and Thanh Luc are both in group C, and will face each other in the opening match this afternoon (December 5).
The two Vietnamese players were very familiar with each other. Therefore, both Quyet Chien and Thanh Luc played very closely. The pace of this match was quite slow, witnessing a fierce competition of scores between the two players. After the first 5 rounds, Quyet Chien led 7-2. But after the 10th round, Thanh Luc took the lead 10-8.
The score was also balanced many times: 13-13, 16-16. In the 18th round, when the score was 19-19, the reigning world runner-up Tran Thanh Luc had a series of 6 to take the lead 25-19, and at the same time brought the match into the break.

Chiem Hong Thai causes surprise

Meanwhile, the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City World Cup champion Tran Duc Minh only scored 2 points in the first half.
Chiem Hong Thai scored very slowly in the second half, giving Tran Duc Minh a chance to catch up. The 25-year-old player reached 35 points in the 19th inning, but only scored 3 points in the next 10 innings (from 19 to 29). At one point, the gap between the two players was only 6 points, when Hong Thai led 38-32. But in the end, Hong Thai still won 30-32, after 31 innings.

In the match at the same time, Bao Phuong Vinh faced Eddy Merckx (Belgium) in Group D. The Vietnamese player played with stable form to create a gap with his opponent right from the start. The veteran Belgian player, despite breaking away in the second set, could not overcome Bao Phuong Vinh. The player from Binh Duong won 40-29 after 22 rounds.
Genius Caudron wins the opening match
In the opening match of Group B on the afternoon of December 5, Frederic Caudron also won convincingly against Samer Kamal with a score of 40-26.
