According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, in the month before and after Tet, prices of goods under the market stabilization program and essential food will be kept fixed, unchanged and fully supplied to the market.
On the afternoon of December 26, Mr. Nguyen Minh Hung, Deputy Head of the Trade Management Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, said that in the past 11 months, Ho Chi Minh City has implemented a series of market stabilization programs, stimulating consumption for people and received consensus and support from many businesses. As a result, the average consumer price index in the first 11 months of 2024 of the City increased by only 3.19% over the same period, lower than the national average (the whole country increased by 3.69%). The total retail sales of goods in the first 11 months of the City reached VND 514,478 billion, up 10.9% over the same period, higher than the national average (the whole country increased by 8.1%).
Regarding the preparation of goods for the Lunar New Year, Mr. Nguyen Minh Hung said that the market stabilization program in 2024 and the Lunar New Year 2025 has 69 key enterprises participating (an increase of 10 enterprises compared to 2023). Up to now, the preparation of goods by enterprises has basically met the set plan, enough to supply the market.
Specifically, key enterprises participating in the market stabilization program have prepared capital of more than VND 22,000 billion, of which more than VND 8,000 billion is preparing essential food and foodstuffs to serve the Tet market. The amount of essential goods with price stabilization increased by 4-6% compared to the same period and accounted for 21% - 32% of the market share in normal months; on average, each month during Tet is expected to supply 8,300 tons of rice, 5,000 tons of livestock meat, 5,500 tons of poultry meat, 23 million poultry eggs, 1,400 tons of sugar, 1,100 tons of cooking oil, 800 tons of processed food, 10,000 tons of vegetables and fruits, 200 tons of seafood, etc.
“In the month before and after Tet, the prices of goods under the market stabilization program and essential food will be kept constant and unchanged. During Tet, distribution systems will only close for a short time, most of them will open on the second day of Tet to meet people’s demand for essential goods. Therefore, people do not need to buy large quantities of goods to stock up on this occasion,” Mr. Hung added.
