The Southern Hydrometeorological Station said: From May 25 to the evening of May 26, Ho Chi Minh City will have widespread showers and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing moderate to heavy rain. The widespread heavy rain in Ho Chi Minh City is likely to last until May 29. During the thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. It is necessary to be on guard against the possibility of heavy rain combined with localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Besides, in the Southern sea, the southwest monsoon maintains level 4 - 5 intensity, the sea is slightly rough, wave height from 1 - 2.5 meters.
Explaining further about this rain, MSc. Le Thi Xuan Lan, a hydrometeorological expert, said: The reason is that in the east of the Philippines, there is a strong storm named Mawar moving towards this island nation; it is moving in a west and west-northwest direction. Initially, the meteorological agencies of Japan and the US both predicted that the storm would likely enter the East Sea of our country. However, as of today, the storm is forecast to approach the Luzon island area (Philippines) and then turn west-northwest into the Taiwan island area (China).
"Thus, we can temporarily rest assured that the storm will not enter the East Sea or affect our mainland. However, this storm will make the southwest monsoon stronger, especially during the period of May 28-29. This means that the Southern region will have more rain and quite large amounts of rain," Ms. Lan explained.
