On September 20, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced that it has deployed and communicated the process of searching for and supporting emergency medicine among medical examination and treatment facilities in the city. This is considered a solution to enhance coordination and proactive response in emergency situations for patients.
At the same time, it aims to ensure optimal management and effective use of emergency medicine resources, improve the capacity to meet emergency needs and the quality of medical examination and treatment services of hospitals in the Ho Chi Minh City health system.
The process of looking up and supporting emergency medicine between medical examination and treatment facilities on the application has 3 steps:
- Step 1: Look up emergency medicine (doctor on duty is responsible for doing). At this step, through examination, diagnosis, and treatment indications, it is determined that specific emergency medicine is needed but is not available at the hospital. The doctor on duty needs to immediately access the emergency medicine lookup software to determine which hospital currently has the medicine needed.
- Step 2: Contact and request emergency medicine support (the hospital leader on duty is responsible for implementation). Accordingly, the hospital leader will directly contact the leader of the hospital that currently has medicine (contact by phone) to request emergency medicine support for the hospital.
- Step 3: Receive emergency medicine (pharmacy staff and head of pharmacy department are responsible for implementation). Specifically, the pharmacy staff will receive the medicine immediately after receiving approval from the hospital leader where the medicine is available (using a medicine borrowing form) and immediately hand it over to the clinical department that needs to use the medicine. After receiving the medicine, the pharmacy department will carry out and send the medicine borrowing document within 24 hours.
The software and search process has 14 hospitals in the city searching and sharing 37 emergency drugs, including: Children's Hospital 1, Children's Hospital 2, City Children's Hospital, Hung Vuong Hospital, Tu Du Hospital, Tropical Diseases Hospital, Binh Dan Hospital, Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital, Heart Institute, Nguyen Trai Hospital, Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital, People's Hospital 115, Gia Dinh People's Hospital and Trung Vuong Hospital.
Serving emergency care for patients
Previously, at the socio-economic press conference on the afternoon of August 15, the Department of Health said that there were many cases where emergency drugs could not meet the demand because the drugs were not available on the market and often did not have a circulation registration number, while the demand often arose suddenly. Or the drugs had low demand, were not used regularly, so they were rarely produced; the drugs had very high prices while the demand was low and the risk of drug destruction was high...
The drug lookup application will help increase the connection between general and specialized hospitals in the city, meeting the urgent needs of hospitals to serve the emergency care of patients; update the inventory of emergency drugs at hospitals to have timely intervention measures...
