The National Science and Technology Competition for the 2024-2025 school year will be held at Ton Duc Thang University, Ho Chi Minh City from March 19 to 21, 2025. The competition is organized by the Ministry of Education and Training in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
Forming a desire for innovation
This year, the competition had 212 projects, including 23 individual projects, 189 group projects; 190 projects of high school students and 22 projects of middle school students. According to Mr. Thuong, this year's national science and technology competition takes place in a very special context, in the atmosphere of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
"Not only that, this year's competition also has many new points, taking place in the context of the Politburo signing and issuing Resolution No. 57 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation. This Resolution is considered as "Contract 10" in science and technology. The competition is a step to prepare for breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, digital transformation...
Scientists and experts assess that when Resolution 57 comes into effect, the education sector must bring science, technology, and innovation into schools from the smallest activities. This activity will form in students dreams, aspirations, innovative thinking, and the spirit of a scientist from high school," Mr. Thuong emphasized.
New regulations
The national science and technology competition was first organized by the Ministry of Education and Training in 2013. Since then, the competition has been held once a year in the second semester of the school year.
From 2013 to 2019, the competition was held at two locations in the North and South with 4-6 projects/competition units participating and was held in different localities.

From 2020 to 2024, the competition will reduce the number of participating projects (2 projects/contesting unit; for Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the competition host unit, 4 projects will be allowed to participate).
This year is the first year that the national science and technology competition is organized under new regulations (issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on April 10, 2024). Accordingly, participating units are departments of education and training, which can register up to 3 projects; Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City alone can register up to 6 projects.
For participating units that are schools under ministries, universities, colleges, institutes, and academies, a maximum of 2 projects can be registered. The unit hosting the competition can register a maximum of 6 projects. If the unit hosting the competition is the Department of Education and Training of Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, a maximum of 12 projects can be registered.
Projects participating in the national science and technology competition are selected from provincial and school level competitions.
From the results of the national science and technology competition, the Ministry of Education and Training will select the projects that win the highest prizes and are qualified to participate in the International Science and Technology Competition for high school students (this year, the competition is expected to take place in May 2025 in the United States).
For the third time, Ho Chi Minh City hosted the national science and technology competition.

"In the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City was assigned to host the competition. This is also the third time in 13 years that Ho Chi Minh City has been selected and trusted by the Ministry of Education and Training to be assigned this task. We will try our best in organizing the competition so that it can take place effectively, safely and bring all leaders, teachers and students beautiful memories.
Ho Chi Minh City is constantly striving to have more and more positive changes and develop in all aspects, not only as an economic and cultural center but also as a place with a modern education system, with many high-quality schools and training facilities; transportation infrastructure, healthcare, and public services are also upgraded, bringing a comfortable and modern life to the people.
In the context of Ho Chi Minh City bustling to welcome the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, the presence of friends from all 62 provinces and cities gathering here is even more meaningful.
