Accordingly, for the 10th grade admission period for the 2024-2025 school year, direct admission and priority admission will follow the document on the regulations for junior high school and high school admission of the Ministry of Education and Training in 2019.
"HCMC has never directly recruited candidates with IELTS certificates or any international language certificates, nor has it given priority points to candidates with international language certificates or achievements in the city's excellent student exam in the 10th grade entrance exam. This year's 10th grade entrance exam will be the same," the official affirmed.
According to this person, Ho Chi Minh City has always given priority and recruited directly in accordance with the spirit of the documents of the Ministry of Education and Training. Because the number of candidates in Ho Chi Minh City is very large and the number of parents sending their children to take IELTS or other international language certificates is very large.
Up to now, Ho Chi Minh City has not announced the 10th grade enrollment plan for the 2024-2025 school year.
On February 23, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a document requesting that provinces and cities that have had plans to enroll 10th graders for the 2024-2025 school year, including policies on direct admission, giving priority points to candidates with international IELTS foreign language certificates, and candidates who have achieved excellent student results at the provincial and city levels, must stop implementing those enrollment plans.
The Ministry also said that in the coming time, it will conduct inspections and checks on enrollment work in a number of provinces and cities.
At the same time, the ministry requested provinces and cities to implement the 10th grade enrollment plan in accordance with the provisions of consolidated document No. 03 of 2019 on the regulations on enrollment in junior high schools and high schools.
According to statistics, up to now, about 20 provinces and cities nationwide have announced plans for admission to grade 10 for the 2024-2025 school year. Some provinces and cities have plans for direct admission and additional points for candidates with international language certificates.
According to the 10th grade enrollment plan for the 2024-2025 school year, Tuyen Quang province will organize entrance exams for three subjects: math, literature, and English. The province applies a direct admission policy for candidates with an IELTS certificate of 5.0 or higher.
For candidates applying to the English specialized class at Tuyen Quang High School for the Gifted, the direct admission requirement is an IELTS certificate of 7.0. Candidates with IELTS 6.0 - 6.5 will receive 1-2 extra points.
In the previous admission period, some provinces and cities also applied a direct admission policy for candidates with IELTS certificates such as Phu Tho and Nghe An.
Many other provinces and cities such as Binh Duong, Vinh Long, Quang Binh, Quang Tri... implement policies to give priority points or exempt foreign language exams for candidates with IELTS certificates.
Candidates for grade 10 in Ho Chi Minh City take three subjects: literature, math, foreign language.
According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year, candidates will take three subjects: math, literature, and foreign language. The structure of the three subjects will be similar to that of the 2023-2024 school year. Time to complete the exam: math, literature: 120 minutes, English: 90 minutes.
The test content is within the secondary school curriculum, mainly in grade 9. The test does not only test knowledge but also focuses on approaching candidates' abilities through applying learned knowledge to real-life situations, requiring reading comprehension skills and logical thinking.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City stopped implementing non-specialized classes in Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted.
Candidates will have 5 wishes, including 3 wishes to enter regular grade 10 and 2 wishes to enter specialized or integrated classes.
The 10th grade exam is scheduled to take place in early June. Ho Chi Minh City is developing a process for considering admission wishes with the hope of supporting candidates to get results sooner, increasing the candidates' chances of being admitted to the schools they have registered for.
