On the afternoon of March 27, reporting on the enrollment of grade 6 students for the 2024-2025 school year at a working session with the Culture and Social Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, Mr. Le Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said:
In the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City plans to have six schools enrolling 6th grade students using a competency assessment test. Specifically:
- Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School, Thu Duc City
- Hoa Lu Secondary School, Thu Duc City
- Binh Tho Secondary School, Thu Duc City
- Nguyen Huu Tho Secondary School, District 7
- Nguyen An Khuong Secondary School, Hoc Mon District
- Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School, District 1 (planned - project under construction).
According to Mr. Nam, the six schools above are considered advanced schools - international integration or schools with students registering for grade 6 exceeding the enrollment quota.
Regarding the reason for expanding the survey to enroll 6th graders in the 2024-2025 school year, Mr. Nam informed that based on the consolidated document 03/VBHN-BGDĐT dated May 3, 2019 of the Ministry of Education and Training, from the 2023-2024 school year, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee allows conducting surveys to enroll 6th graders in schools classified as advanced - internationally integrated schools; schools with students registering for 6th grade enrollment exceeding the enrollment quota.
Of which, Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School, Thu Duc City has implemented it since 2023. This year, localities continue to expand this form.
Grade 6 enrollment by identification code
Mr. Le Hoai Nam informed that in the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have 110,000 sixth graders, a decrease of 24,000 students compared to the previous school year. Meanwhile, the number of first graders in the next school year will increase by 5,000 students.
In the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to maintain the same online enrollment model as in the 2023-2024 school year, enrolling students using their identification codes.
In addition to the six schools mentioned above, the remaining secondary schools still recruit students through examination.
The admission process will be divided into two phases, including:
Phase 1: Priority is given to candidates who are actually residing in the area, have completed primary school and are within the prescribed age.
Phase 2: Based on the units that have not recruited enough students compared to the assigned quota, the Primary Admissions Steering Committee decides on the opening of the second round of admissions, and at the same time stipulates the subjects allowed to register during this phase (registration is still carried out online at the admissions page prescribed by the department).
