Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation safely operated 756,996 flights in 2023
Keeping flights running requires flight managers to face immense pressure and focus. Although they never appear in front of passengers, flight managers play a decisive role in the context of rapid growth in aviation.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Long, Acting General Director of Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), said that in 2023, with the attention and close direction of the leaders of the Ministry of Transport; agencies under the Ministry of Transport; leaders of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, units inside and outside the aviation industry, and proactively developed plans and solutions early on, the unit operated and ensured safety for 756,996 flights, maintaining the provision of services to ensure flight operations are of guaranteed quality, strict, and in accordance with regulations.

Improve flight operations capacity
According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Long, in 2023, the Corporation has taken the lead in building, amending, supplementing, building new and optimizing air routes and flight methods to meet operational requirements, save costs, reduce environmental emissions, and reduce workload for air traffic controllers.
In addition to applying the air traffic control coordination process in adverse weather conditions, the unit also maintains and operates the safety management system well. Changes in airspace, flight methods, and technical equipment are all managed before being officially applied. Recently, VATM also reviewed and compiled statistics on the operation and maintenance process, and studied and revised the maintenance process with a system that ensures flight operations for over 10 years.
"The unit has organized to maintain and improve the quality of commentary, draw experience in flight operations, and overcome shortcomings in each specific situation. The Corporation has fully implemented regular aviation security control measures as required and strengthened security at flight operations facilities," Mr. Nguyen Cong Long informed.
According to the 2023 production and business data, VATM completed, achieved and exceeded the production and business plan targets approved by the Ministry of Transport; preserved and developed state capital; maintained major financial and investment balances; ensured full welfare policies and stable income for employees.
The unit has implemented 81 projects and key investment projects in line with the medium-term plan in 2023. Notably, last year, VATM organized the groundbreaking ceremony for the Dien Bien Air Traffic Control Tower; for Component Project 2 "Works serving flight management" of the Long Thanh International Airport project, the foundation and piles of the Air Traffic Control Tower have been completed, and the tower body and construction items are under construction. The construction is ahead of schedule.

According to statistics, the estimated number of employees by the end of 2023 of VATM is 3,553 employees. Human resource development and training are focused on implementation by the Corporation.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Long said that the Party work of the Corporation's Party Committee was carried out in an orderly manner, in compliance with Party regulations. The Trade Union also did a good job of taking care of the lives and interests of workers, successfully organizing the Congress for the 2023-2028 term. With its pioneering role, the Youth Union carried out well the activities of the Youth Union and Youth Month 2023.
Flight operations help ensure safety as aviation grows rapidly
Entering 2024, according to the plan, VATM determined to continue to be determined, make efforts, and strive to resolve and thoroughly overcome the identified shortcomings and limitations, and complete the set plan. It is expected that in 2024, it will operate 789,546 trips, with total revenue of 3,600 billion VND, and pay the state budget 2,108 billion VND.
"VATM will speed up the progress of key projects such as component project 2 "Aircraft management facilities" of Long Thanh International Airport project; ATCC/HCM project; Dien Bien Air Traffic Control Station... Continue to invest in equipment and technology systems serving flight operations to ensure adherence to the approved development orientation and goals in the Air Transport Development Plan for the period up to 2020, with a vision to 2030," Mr. Nguyen Cong Long shared.
