General Secretary: Female National Assembly deputies need to be steel roses

The General Secretary asked female delegates to promote their mettle and intelligence, to truly be steel roses, shining examples of solidarity, striving, development and spreading.

"Female deputies need to inspire women across the country, especially the younger generation," General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said when meeting with female deputies on the anniversary of the founding of the group of female parliamentarians of the Vietnamese National Assembly on the afternoon of June 5.

The General Secretary assessed that over the past time, the number and quality of female delegates have been increasing. From 10 female delegates of the 1st National Assembly, there are now 151 female delegates of the 15th National Assembly. The qualifications, education and experience of female delegates have been constantly improved; the rate of speaking is high, many opinions are convincing and accepted. Some female delegates have been assigned important responsibilities as leaders of the National Assembly, the Council of Nationalities, Committees, heads or deputy heads of delegations.

In the coming time, the General Secretary proposed that the Female National Assembly deputies continue to promote the traditions of Vietnamese women, while at the same time better performing their role as representatives of the people; with high responsibility in building and perfecting the legal system, supreme supervision and deciding on important issues of the country.

He hopes that female delegates will continuously study, practice, improve their moral qualities, qualifications, professional and technical skills; promote women's strengths, create high persuasiveness in their opinions as well as in the activities of the National Assembly. Female delegates need to create consensus in the National Assembly in participating in the development of policies and laws, including policies and laws for women and children.

Another important task of the group of female National Assembly deputies is to expand friendly exchange activities and international cooperation, actively participate in international and regional conferences, seminars and forums, especially on promoting gender equality, preventing and combating domestic violence, poverty and climate change.

The General Secretary affirmed that the Party and State have been creating all conditions for female National Assembly deputies to promote their role as representatives of the people, ensuring resources for the law on gender equality to be increasingly better enforced. He believes that female National Assembly deputies will make even greater contributions to the activities of the National Assembly and fulfill their responsibilities as deputies.

"I hope that with your intelligence, responsibility and experience, you will strive and work hard to continue contributing to making the Vietnamese National Assembly truly the highest representative body of the people, representing the will and aspirations of the people, the highest State power body, operating effectively and efficiently," said the General Secretary.
