Many politicians around the world have sent their deepest condolences to the Party, State and people of Vietnam upon hearing the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's passing, and highly appreciated the General Secretary's role and contributions to Vietnam as well as to the communist movement, the progressive world and leftist politics globally. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his deep condolences, saying that the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong leaves a huge void. In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency in Kuala Lumpur, Prime Minister Anwar emphasized: "General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's vision of maintaining strategic autonomy and promoting good governance in Vietnam really resonated deeply with me personally when I met the General Secretary during his official visit to Vietnam in July 2023. The General Secretary's vision for the relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia will endure. His legacy will inspire future generations, in Vietnam and across Southeast Asia." According to a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Singapore, in a letter of condolence to President To Lam, Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam wrote: “General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s dedication to the fight against corruption was also a decisive factor in his leadership role.
