Recalling her golden age, "rock queen" Ngoc Anh choked up: "I miss my youth and my golden age. I wish time would stop or I could travel back in time to find those glorious, passionate moments on stage."

Youth is wrapped up in cassette tapes

As a guest on the show "Artist's Life", singer Ngoc Anh was moved when recalling the golden age of her music career.

Looking back at her first tape, especially the song "Sad Smile", Ngoc Anh shared with emotion: "This song is Thai music but the Vietnamese lyrics were written by me. I have a Thai friend, he gave me a tape to listen to. When I listened to it, I really liked this song, my friend translated the lyrics into English for me. Then I rewrote it into Vietnamese. Luckily, this song became a hit".

Regarding the tape Khong Dat No, which was once very popular, Ngoc Anh admitted that this product sold out so quickly that she herself did not have any to give to her friends.

"That tape was reprinted countless times and that was my big year," the 60-year-old singer said, revealing that this project helped her receive the award for most popular singer of the year.

Singer Ngoc Anh’s career is partly encapsulated in cassette tapes. For her, those tapes are not only a place to show off her talent but also a place to store memories and glorious days on stage.

During the program, when she had the opportunity to look back at her golden age, she was moved and choked up: "My emotions are very emotional, I miss my youth and my golden age. I wish time would stop or I could travel back in time to find those glorious, passionate moments on stage, singing the songs of that time again.

Looking back now, it's a source of pride. Holding those cassette tapes in my hand is a priceless keepsake, it's the hard work of my youth."

Ngoc Anh received a "huge" salary during her heyday.

Ngoc Anh was born in 1964 in Ho Chi Minh City. She was a famous singer in the 1980s and 1990s with an extremely passionate rock performance style.

She was once affectionately nicknamed "Queen of Rock" by the audience, associated with many songs such as: "Highland Flame", "Sunset on the Ocean", "Spring Echoes of Tri An", "Spring from Oil Wells"...

Ngoc Anh once had a successful career and was admired by many audiences.

The singer born in 1964 was also a famous advertising star at one time. When karaoke was introduced to Vietnam, Ngoc Anh's image appeared everywhere on advertisements and became familiar to the public.

In her artistic career, the female artist works tirelessly, regularly appearing on large and small stages, charity music nights, music nights serving workers...

In the program "Artist's Life" in 2021, Ngoc Anh revealed that her singing salary at the peak was so "huge" that she had to save it up to buy gold for easy storage. About every 2 to 3 days, the female artist went to the market to buy gold and each time she bought it, she had to "count the tael of gold, not the ounce of gold".

During her heyday, Ngoc Anh often performed shows from 8am to 2am the next morning. Every time she came home from a performance, her pay was poured out in the middle of the house for 4-5 people to tie into bundles and put in the closet because there was no time to count them. During Tet, show organizers lined up at her house to deposit money to invite the "rock queen" to sing.

In the program "Artist's Life" broadcast in 2023, Ngoc Anh also revealed that she is often invited to sing at rich weddings and is given a lot of cash by the audience.

"There was so much money given, I couldn't hold it all and had to put it on the stage floor. Sometimes, the wedding restaurant manager had to bring me a plastic bag to "scoop" the money in," Ngoc Anh said.

Ngoc Anh was also one of the first singers in Saigon to have a pager and a landline phone. More than 20 years ago, she often used luxury branded goods, from sunglasses, shoes to handbags...

Recently, she received the attention of the audience when she reappeared in the program "Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind 2024".

Ngoc Anh shared that her daughter encouraged her to join the program so that she could meet more audiences, especially young audiences.

"I know I'm the oldest beauty on the show, so I'm very excited and looking forward to facing the challenges," Ngoc Anh shared.

Ngoc Anh said she went into the competition with a relaxed mindset, not caring about winning or losing. What she wanted most was to have a stage where she could play her best. "I will try to stay cheerful, sociable and have fun playing with the kids as a gift on my 60th birthday," the singer confided.

A troubled marriage

In her personal life, the "rock queen" is currently a single mother after two failed marriages. In the program "Knock on the door to visit the house" aired in 2021, Ngoc Anh said that her first marriage was loveless. After 5 years, the relationship between husband and wife broke down because her husband "didn't want to have children".

Ngoc Anh confided: "When I was young, I dreamed of my ideal lover and husband. However, my first marriage did not come from love. At that time, I was old so I had to get married. During 5 years of marriage, I built a home, a career, and shouldered everything on my shoulders. I sacrificed my passion for singing, but the pressure was still too great."

Ngoc Anh burst into tears on the show "Knock on the door to visit".

Entering her second marriage, the female singer was betrayed by her partner right after giving birth to her daughter Angela, causing her to lose faith and become "disillusioned". When her daughter was 4 years old, her second marriage ended.

After the breakup, Ngoc Anh and her second husband still maintained a friendship and treated each other civilly. Whenever she had the chance, the "rock queen" would arrange for her daughter to go out with her father, or organize meals with her ex-husband and close relatives.

The female singer once shared: "I always teach my children to love their father because he still sends money to raise them. And they are the result of the love between their father and mother, although it was short-lived but very happy. Even though the happiness is not complete now, they still maintain a relationship with their father because he is their father."

Ngoc Anh always tells her children not to hate, to love and maintain a good relationship with their biological father.

It is known that the "Queen of Rock" always gives the best to her children. In life, she always respects her daughter's right to choose her future direction.

In the field of art, whenever needed, Ngoc Anh will analyze and give advice with her child so that she can understand more deeply about the work, author and character she is researching. When her daughter performs a report, the "rock queen" is always there to encourage her spirit.

Ngoc Anh proudly shared that Angela is very understanding, mature and always makes her mother feel secure. In addition, she is also a good student and has talent.
