This year, the number of works submitted to the Award was 1,894, of which 1,774 works qualified for the Preliminary Round. The Preliminary Round judging process was carried out seriously, strictly, in accordance with the Guidelines and Regulations of the Award Council. The 11 Subcommittees of the Preliminary Round judging worked impartially, completed the Preliminary Round judging on time, and achieved good quality.

The Final Round judging process was carried out in accordance with the Award Charter and the working regulations and voting procedures of the Award Council. Of the 157 works entered in the Final Round, the Council discussed, evaluated and voted to select: 9 A prizes, 24 B prizes, 46 C prizes, 45 Encouragement prizes to award the 17th National Press Award - 2022.

According to the Award Council's assessment, the entries for the Award closely followed major themes from politics, economics, culture, society, national defense, security and other aspects of the country's life in 2022, clearly reflecting important events of the country such as: efforts to restore socio-economic development and build an independent and self-reliant economy in the context of being heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic; Party building and rectification, the fight against corruption and negativity, and protecting the Party's ideological foundation.

In general, the works participating in this year's Awards are of fairly even quality, the gap between central and local press is narrowed in many genres. Most of the works are close to reality, highly topical, and address hot spots in 2022 in the fields of politics, economics, society, national security and defense, Party building, etc.
