Solemnly organized the 18th National Press Awards Ceremony

On the occasion of the 99th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day June 21 (1925-2024), tonight, June 21, the 18th National Press Awards Ceremony, 2023 was solemnly held at the Vietnam - Soviet Union Friendship Cultural Palace, Hanoi.

Politburo member, President To Lam; Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's Propaganda and Education Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia; Party Central Committee members: Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang; Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh attended the ceremony. On behalf of the Vietnam Journalists Association, there were Party Central Committee member, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Propaganda and Education Commission, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Chairman of the National Press Awards Council Le Quoc Minh.

This year, the number of works submitted for the award was 1,905, of which 1,827 works met the requirements. The preliminary judging process was carried out seriously, strictly, in accordance with the instructions and regulations of the Award Council. The 11 subcommittees of the preliminary judging council worked impartially, completed the judging on time, and achieved good quality. Of the 165 works entered into the final round, the council discussed, evaluated and voted to select 10 A prizes, 26 B prizes, 45 C prizes and 41 Encouragement prizes to award the 18th National Press Awards.

The series of articles (5 parts) "Vietnam - Cuba Friendship and Cooperation: Inheriting Tradition, Fostering the Future" by the group of authors Minh Phuong - Hoai Huong - Lam Thanh - Tu Linh of Quang Tri Newspaper was honored to win the C prize.

In general, the works participating in this year's competition are of good quality. Many works are invested in carefully, the content is to discover new issues, criticize major policies of the Party and State; propose many creative solutions, good ways of doing things that have the power to spread and influence in society. Many works are invested seriously, carefully, have a tight structure, the way of expression is close, vivid, attractive to readers.

The highlight of this year is the elaborate and attractive multimedia press products. Many press agencies have innovated, approached modern journalism technology, developed multi-platform, multimedia journalism and creative forms of journalism to increase attractiveness and public accessibility.

In addition to central press agencies, some local newspapers and radio stations have also changed the way they choose topics and themes and implement them in new and modern ways, which are highly appreciated for both quality and presentation. It can be seen that through each season, the quality of the entries has become better and better, the gap between central and local press has increasingly narrowed.

Revolutionary journalism must truly become mainstream in the digital space.

Speaking at the ceremony, on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, President To Lam warmly commended, acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements and results of the press and journalists in the cause of national liberation, construction and development of the country over the past 99 years; at the same time, congratulated the authors and groups of authors who were awarded the 18th National Press Award.

The award-winning works reflect the vibrant work of the press nationwide over the past year, and represent the great achievements of the Vietnamese press towards the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.

In the context that the entire Party, people and army are making efforts to implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, President To Lam suggested focusing on building a team of journalists who are truly soldiers on the cultural and ideological front, with "bright minds, pure hearts, sharp pens", "both red and professional"; steadfast in the ideals and noble values ​​of journalism, adhering to principles, maintaining professional ethics, having an offensive spirit, fighting to eliminate the bad and the wrong, protecting the right and the good, always devoting themselves to the common cause.

Besides, it is necessary to promote the role of the press - a tool for social struggle, national struggle, class struggle, which is truly a sharp weapon, an effective tool of the Party on the ideological front, and to have more press works with high theoretical and political value.

“The press must fight against erroneous and hostile viewpoints; actively participate in the fight against corruption and negativity; overcome the situation of pure information and mere entertainment; constantly arouse and encourage the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country, and the will to overcome difficulties,” President To Lam emphasized.

Journalistic works must constantly preserve and promote Vietnamese ethical values ​​and cultural identity; shape and spread cultural standards of behavior in society, contributing to building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet the requirements of building and defending the Fatherland in the new period.

The President requested the press to strongly promote digital transformation and innovation; clearly define goals and roadmaps, implement digital transformation strongly and with specific results; focus on training human resources on digital platforms and human resources in professional expertise. Revolutionary press information must truly become the mainstream information in the digital space.

In particular, the press needs to pay attention to researching the public and product forms that are attractive, highly interactive, and widely spread among the public, especially the young public. Trusting and continuing the 99-year tradition of establishment and development, with experience, courage, and will, the team of journalists - the vanguard force on the cultural and ideological front of the Party, will excellently complete all tasks entrusted to them by the Party, the State, and the people.

Many journalistic works are highly topical, touching on social hotspots.

Earlier, in his opening speech at the award ceremony, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association and Chairman of the 18th National Press Awards Council Le Quoc Minh said that in 2023, in the context of common difficulties and challenges in the world, the region and the country, the press has always been a vanguard force in effectively propagating the policies and guidelines of the Party and State, always closely associated with and accompanying the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, serving the People.
