Towards the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), on the evening of August 14, in Quang Tri province, a night of gratitude was held for delegates who are outstanding contributors of Ho Chi Minh City. This is one of the activities in the journey to the source "Revisiting the old battlefield" organized by the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City in coordination with other units from August 13 to 16, in the provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue.
At the gratitude night, delegates together recalled the heroic years of the nation during the resistance wars; talked, performed, sang songs recalling the red flower period and the dedication and selfless sacrifice of heroes and martyrs.
At the gratitude night, Deputy Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Commission Tran Xuan Dien shared that, in order to deepen the tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source", in recent times, Ho Chi Minh City has implemented many movements of "Repaying gratitude", taking care of families of war invalids, martyrs, and people with meritorious services to the revolution.
In the period of 2013-2023, Ho Chi Minh City mobilized to build a "Repaying gratitude" Fund with an amount of nearly 189 billion VND; contributing to improving the lives of policy families; ensuring that 100% of surviving Vietnamese Heroic Mothers are taken care of by units; 100% of communes and wards do a good job in the work of War Invalids and Martyrs.
According to the Deputy Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Commission, in recent years, many Party guidelines and policies, State policies and laws on preferential treatment for people with meritorious services have been issued and implemented synchronously, comprehensively and diversely; the beneficiaries of preferential policies have been expanded, preferential regimes have been gradually supplemented and improved, contributing to improving the living standards of people with meritorious services and relatives of people with meritorious services to the revolution.
This is the honor and responsibility of today's and future generations for the dedication and sacrifice of heroes, martyrs, and wounded soldiers for the independence and freedom of the nation, and for the happiness of the people.
On behalf of the delegation of meritorious people, Mr. Pham Van Quang (born in 1947) shared that the delegation was extremely honored, proud and moved to revisit the old battlefield, together reviewing the tradition of fighting, heroic sacrifice and glorious victories of the fiery Binh Tri Thien battlefield.
"Most of us have reached a rare age, but we still long to visit our relatives and comrades who are resting on this land. We, the meritorious ones, will always be exemplary, continue to do business, actively participate in social activities and maintain the spirit of revolutionary soldiers, being an example for the younger generation to follow," Mr. Quang shared.
On this occasion, the Organizing Committee also presented flowers and gifts of gratitude to 60 delegates with meritorious services in Ho Chi Minh City, each gift worth 5 million VND.
