When the word "Titanic" came out of the American tourist's mouth, the whole dining room fell silent, utensils fell to the floor and the waiter held his breath.
Marc Sebastian, an American TikToker, was on board the Royal Caribbean cruise ship for the 9-month Ultimate World Cruise. However, the male tourist was only on board for 18 days, from January 5 to 23. Marc documented his experience of the trip and revealed that "Titanic" is the word that guests should "never" utter when stepping on the cruise ship.
In a video shared on his personal TikTok with more than 1.7 million followers, Marc said he had never heard that "Titanic" was a taboo word on ships. While everyone was having lunch in the cafeteria, Marc told them that this ship was "30 meters longer than the Titanic", and everyone immediately fell silent. "When I mentioned the Titanic, utensils fell to the ground, the waiter gasped and the space in the room was silent," Marc recounted.

The friend then told Marc, "Titanic is a forbidden word." The famous TikToker said that before boarding the ship, he had no idea that this was a word that should not be mentioned, because it was a bad omen because of the previous Titanic disaster.
Marc's video has attracted more than 4 million views since it was posted. Many people said it was an interesting discovery. "Mentioning Titanic while on a cruise is like joking about a bomb on a plane. Those are words to avoid," one person shared.
Many people also said that avoiding the word "Titanic" is "a silly superstition". "I also travel by cruise ship. On the ship, I often discuss Titanic and Ocean Gate with everyone without being reminded," commented another person.
Titanic was a steam-powered ocean liner that crashed into an iceberg in 1912, killing more than 1,500 people. Its official name was RMS Titanic (Royal Mail Ship Titanic), and it was known as the largest, most modern, and most luxurious ship at the time.
