Flight attendants reveal hidden buttons on airplane seats that make passengers feel more comfortable.
Most airline passengers know that there is a button on the seat that can raise and lower the backrest for comfort, as well as a button to raise and lower the armrest on the middle seat. But not many people know that the armrest on the aisle seat can also be raised and lowered. Most people think that the armrest is fixed.
In a video posted on Virgin Australia's TikTok account, a flight attendant revealed that there is usually a "secret button" under the armrest of the aisle seat. Pressing it will raise the seat back.
Raising the seat back helps passengers have more space, sit more comfortably and easily leave their seats to stand up to put away or get things in the upper cabin or go to the toilet.

The flight attendant's video has been viewed nearly 120,000 times since it was posted. Many people said it was an interesting revelation and would follow it on their next flight. Sebastien Bouevier, who teaches Safety and Emergency Procedures for a major airline in the world, explained that armrests must be placed down during takeoff and landing to avoid injury to passengers.
"If the plane stops suddenly," Bouevier said, any handrail that is not securely placed down could "jump forward at the same speed the plane was before it stopped," "possibly hitting you" with great force.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines state that handrails must be in their normal position before takeoff and landing to ensure that they do not obstruct emergency exits in the event of an evacuation. The FAA adds that handrails are primarily intended to assist people with reduced mobility.
