Accordingly, the loss of gender equality at birth leads to the following consequences: excess of males and lack of females; breakdown of traditional family structures; increased gender inequality;… The main causes are: rapid decline in birth rates, preference for sons, availability of technology to determine fetal sex, and easy access to abortion services.

Supporting causes: Persistently low birth rate, small families; many local occupations require male labor. Direct causes: Illegal fetal sex diagnosis, especially ultrasound diagnosis of fetal sex; abortion for gender reasons.

To promote gender equality, it is necessary to strengthen communication work to change the viewpoint of male preference and female contempt; strengthen management, inspection and control work to promptly detect and prevent violations of fetal sex selection, and have strong enough sanctions to handle violations according to the provisions of the law... This is an opportunity to prevent changes in the community's awareness and attitudes about son preference and discrimination against women and girls.

After the rally, youth union members of Tien Giang Medical College participated in a parade on the streets of My Tho City to strengthen propaganda work.

It is known that the sex ratio at birth in Tien Giang in the first 9 months of the year is 108 boys/100 girls. The national ratio is 119 boys/100 girls.

It is predicted that by 2050 there will be a surplus of about 2.3 to 4.3 million young men compared to young women.
