Bao Phuong Mooncakes (Hanoi) was established in 1954, nearly 70 years ago. The shop was opened by Mr. Pham Vi Bao on Thuy Khue Street, Tay Ho District. Today, the bakery is maintained and developed by Mr. Bao's children and grandchildren. During the days leading up to the Mid-Autumn Festival, the two establishments are always crowded. During peak hours, hundreds of people have to wait in line.

Bao Phuong mooncakes have many different types of fillings, of which the "ancient" mixed cakes with ham, melon seeds, and Chinese sausage are very popular. Each cake costs from 55,000 to 80,000 VND depending on the type.

Mr. Pham Hai Dang, the third generation successor of Bao Phuong bakery, said that the shop has 120 - 130 employees to serve the moon cake season.

If Hanoi has the Bao Phuong brand, Hai Phong is famous for Dong Phuong mooncakes: thin crust, not too sweet filling, fragrant with lemon leaves, keeping the traditional flavor. In recent years, this brand has attracted a lot of diners from all over the provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh...

About a week before the Mid-Autumn Festival, to get the first batch of mooncakes, many people waited from 1-2am, some even brought pillows, mats, and carpets on the sidewalk to sleep and eat on the spot. At many times, the store had to post a sign saying it was temporarily closed because it could not make enough products to sell to customers.

There are many types of mooncakes here, but the most popular is still the traditional mixed filling, priced from 60,000 to 70,000 VND/piece. Each box contains 4 pieces. If you don't have time to wait, you can ask someone in line to buy the cakes for you, the labor cost is from 40,000 to 80,000 VND/box. The store also makes many types of cakes with abalone, bird's nest, and shark fin fillings, priced up to millions of VND.

In Ho Chi Minh City, when mentioning moon cakes, diners often immediately think of Nhu Lan bakery.

Nhu Lan Bakery on Ham Nghi Street, District 1, has been a familiar address for many people in Ho Chi Minh City for over 50 years. Since the beginning of August, the shop has started displaying many types of traditional moon cakes. The cakes at the shop are diverse with dozens of different fillings such as green bean, coconut, durian, green tea, lotus, shark fin, bird's nest, roasted chicken, mixed... and even moon cakes for vegetarians. The cakes are priced from 50,000 - 430,000 VND/piece.

Similar to Dong Phuong or Bao Phuong, on the days approaching Mid-Autumn Festival, the number of customers lining up at Nhu Lan bakery is also very large, the staff always has to work at maximum capacity.

Dong Hung Vien is also a familiar brand to Ho Chi Minh City residents, famous for its cakes with mixed fillings, green beans... priced from 56,000 - 90,000 VND/piece (depending on weight). In addition, many types of cakes with ingredients such as salted eggs, Chinese sausage, shark fin, grapes, durian... have also been born to create more diversity and appeal.
