Billionaire Elon Musk wants to open his own school

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên18/12/2023

According to tax records from Elon Musk’s charity, The Foundation, the school will receive a $100 million donation from the billionaire. The school will be open from elementary to high school and will focus on teaching STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). The goal is to expand its operations and create a university dedicated to “education at the highest level.”

The school will employ experienced faculty and employ a traditional curriculum alongside hands-on learning experiences, including simulation, research, manufacturing, project design and laboratory activities.

The school is applying for accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC).

The school plans to enroll 50 students based on merit and increase the number over time. Those appointed to run The Foundation include Jared Birchall, head of the Musk family office, Steven Chidester, a tax attorney at Withersworldwide, Ronald Gong and Teresa Holland.

To ease the burden of tuition fees, the school plans to waive tuition fees or provide scholarships to students.

This is not the first time the SpaceX CEO has expressed interest in opening a school. In 2014, Elon Musk founded the Ad Astra school on the SpaceX campus in California for his children and company employees. However, Ad Astra was closed after Elon Musk moved to Texas in 2020. He then went on to open the Astra Nova online school for children aged 10-14, which will have around 50 students as of 2022.
