(CLO) On November 27, the Mekong-Lancang Tourism Cities Cooperation Exchange Program took place in Chongqing City, China to seek and expand new cooperation opportunities and promote tourism development. The event was jointly organized by the International Exchange and Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and the Chongqing Municipal Culture and Tourism Development Committee with the participation of about 200 delegates representing cities, enterprises, industry associations, international organizations, experts and scholars from 6 countries in the Mekong-Lancang cooperation mechanism including Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.
Overview of the Mekong-Lancang Tourism Cities Cooperation Exchange Program.
With a length of about 4,800km, the Mekong-Lancang River flows through 6 countries, forming a large basin of up to 810,000km2. This is not only a gift from nature but also a symbol of friendship as well as a foundation for cooperation among the 6 countries. Therefore, the delegates all expressed their confidence and expectations in tourism cooperation between the cities of the 6 countries in the Mekong-Lancang region.
According to the “Mekong-Lancang Tourism Promotion Cooperation Media Initiative” announced at the event, press and media agencies of the six countries need to promote their propaganda role to promote and enhance the image of tourism, attract international tourists to the Mekong-Lancang region, and contribute to promoting the economic growth of the sub-region.

Delegates also exchanged and discussed promoting the connection of tourism with culture; building a mechanism for sharing information and experience to respond to common challenges; strengthening policy coordination, building infrastructure, digital economic cooperation, and training human resources to make the Mekong-Lancang region a model of tourism cooperation.
Within the framework of the Mekong-Lancang Tourism Cities Cooperation Exchange Program, there are also activities of Chongqing 2024 international travel businesses taking place from November 25-29.
Previously, on the morning of November 26, about 400 delegates representing embassies and consulates general of more than 10 countries in China such as Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, etc.; representatives of international tourism organizations, travel agency associations, airlines, travel companies and press reporters from more than 30 countries and territories attended the opening ceremony of the 2024 Chongqing International Travel Agency Conference.
