Promoting sustainable smart urban development in Vietnam

  The conference was organized by the Korea Advanced Infrastructure Agency (KAIA) under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Korea, the Korean consulting firm Hebronstar, and the Academy of Urban and Construction Managers (AMC Academy).

Dr. Architect Luu Duc Minh - Deputy Director of AMC Academy said that today's conference is a practical exchange program with topics on the development of smart cities in Korea and Vietnam, smart urban technologies that have been successfully applied in Korea. This connecting conference aims to build a network, exploit cooperation opportunities between agencies and enterprises of the two countries through technology exchanges and connections in key areas of smart cities and construction technology; create an environment for agencies and enterprises of the two countries to maintain long-term exchanges and interactions for the purpose of cooperation for mutual development.

“I believe that, with the experience in urban management and development, especially the experience in developing smart cities of Korea and with the spirit of close cooperation between the parties, the VKC Project as well as the Technology Connection Conference will be implemented effectively, contributing positively to the implementation of national strategies for sustainable smart urban development in Vietnam” – Mr. Luu Duc Minh affirmed.

According to AMC Academy, the conference is for experts to share experiences in orientation, development and promotion of research and training on smart cities and advanced construction technology to contribute to the sustainable development of smart cities in Vietnam; at the same time, it is a place to meet and connect with companies in the field of smart infrastructure construction from Korea to exchange, discuss and develop projects in Vietnam.

Previously, on May 12, 2022, the Minister of Construction signed Decision No. 38/QD-BXD approving the technical support document using non-refundable ODA capital from the Korean Government to implement the Project "Establishing the Vietnam - Korea Cooperation Center on Smart Cities and Construction Technology" (VKC Project).

The project aims to establish a professional center to promote research and training on smart cities and advanced construction technology to contribute to the development of smart cities in Vietnam, gradually concretizing Vietnam's policies and guidelines in promoting sustainable smart city development by 2030 and strengthening the relationship between Vietnam and Korea.

The VKC project was deployed to contribute to accelerating the implementation of the Project on sustainable smart urban development in Vietnam for the period 2018 - 2025 and orientation to 2030 (Project 950) through the development of Guidelines on smart cities in Vietnam and activities to enhance training capacity and technology exchange on smart cities.

On the Vietnamese side, the Ministry of Construction assigned the task of implementing the VKC Project to AMC Academy, the Urban Development Department, the Department of Planning and Architecture and related units. On the Korean side, the main responsible units are: Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Construction Technology (KICT), Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS); Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH); Korea Advanced Infrastructure Technology Agency (KAIA).

AMC Academy is assigned as the project owner responsible for coordinating with foreign sponsors to monitor the progress and quality of the project, and is also the project coordinator.
