This is noteworthy information discussed and shared at the Workshop "Children in the digital world - Addressing risks and promoting opportunities" organized by the Department of Children (Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs) in coordination with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on the morning of May 23, in Hanoi.
In fact, the development of information technology and the internet brings many benefits but also many risks to children, especially in the digital age, digital era, and digital citizens today. Children spend more and more time using the internet, along with that, they face many potential risks.
According to Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha, Vietnam has taken strong steps to better protect children on the internet. Vietnam has paid attention to building a legal system on protecting children online, creating an important legal basis. In addition, Vietnam and ASEAN countries have agreed to adopt the Declaration on Protecting Children from All Forms of Online Exploitation and Abuse in ASEAN (2019) and the Declaration on Eliminating Bullying in ASEAN, including Bullying in the Online Environment (2021).
In recent times, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs has had many specific activities to protect children in the online environment. Notably, the Ministry has coordinated, directed and implemented: The network for responding to and protecting children in the online environment; built and integrated online notification channels on issues related to children in the online environment with Hotline 111.
In particular, the Ministry coordinates with the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Ministry of Public Security to promptly inspect and handle content posted on electronic newspapers and social networks with bad and toxic content that affects the healthy development of children and from people's feedback via Hotline 111. Strengthen the implementation of technical measures, filtering, and removing content that is not suitable for children. In addition, the network environment itself is used to enhance creative interactions on the network environment, raising awareness of parents and children.
