According to the plan, by 2025 Thua Thien Hue will become a centrally-governed city and by 2030 it will be a typical heritage city of Vietnam.
On December 31, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed a decision approving the planning of Thua Thien Hue province for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. The provincial planning perspective is to organize development space according to the model of a centrally-governed urban area on the basis of preserving and promoting the value of the ancient capital's heritage and Hue's cultural identity; associated with the North-South corridors and the East-West economic corridor, the coastal urban economic corridor and promoting intra-regional and regional linkages.
To gradually achieve the goal, Thua Thien Hue will develop a synchronous and modern infrastructure, especially in the fields of transportation, smart cities, and natural disaster prevention. The investment and business environment will be improved; all investment resources from economic sectors will be mobilized, allocated, and effectively used.
Thua Thien Hue will promote its potential and strategic location - the gateway to the East-West economic corridor with unique culture and history, focusing on tangible and intangible cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO and diverse natural resources such as Huong River - Ngu Mountain, Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon.
Thua Thien Hue province's planning identifies breakthroughs including: Developing a heritage urban system combined with modern, smart urban areas on the basis of preserving and promoting heritage values; taking advantage of coastal urban areas associated with the position of four centers of the region and the whole country on a large scale, with high economic competitiveness, and adapting to climate change.
Along with building Thua Thien Hue into one of the country's strong marine economic centers, accelerating the growth of processing, manufacturing and green energy power generation industries, the province also prioritizes attracting large projects using high technology and high added value. Cultural, historical and natural resources will also be effectively transformed into growth drivers.
Three urban centers
According to the plan, Thua Thien Hue will have three urban centers in the center of Hue city, the Northwest region and the Southeast region. In which, Hue city is divided into the district north of Huong river and the district south of Huong river, which is the center of the region, heritage urban area, playing the role of driving force for socio-economic development of the province. Huong Thuy develops an airport urban area associated with Phu Bai international airport, industrial parks, and dynamic industrial clusters; Huong Tra town is a satellite city.
The Northwest urban area includes Phong Dien Town, Quang Dien and A Luoi districts, in which Phong Dien central urban area is associated with Dien Loc port, Phong Dien industrial park, developing industrial urban areas as the northern driving force of the province, the gateway connecting with Quang Tri, Quang Binh provinces and countries in the Mekong sub-region.
The Southeast urban area includes Phu Vang district, Phu Loc district, Nam Dong district, developing Chan May area into a type 3 urban area - a smart, modern city associated with Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone.
The province also built three economic corridors, of which the North-South economic corridor connected to National Highway 1 is the main axis, the North-South expressway (Cam Lo - La Son - Tuy Loan), National Highway 49B and the coastal road connected to the coastal economic corridor.
The East-West Economic Corridor connects three eastern seaports, Chan May, Thuan An, Phong Dien, with two Vietnam-Laos border gates in the west via national highways 49, 49D, 49E, 49F; connecting Ho Chi Minh road to Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand.
The coastal urban economic corridor and the promotion of regional connectivity with Quang Tri and Da Nang city have the main axis being the coastal road, developing provincial roads, modern transport routes such as trams, high-speed railways; connecting Hue city, Huong Thuy town, Huong Tra and coastal urban areas.
Thua Thien Hue sets a target of an average economic growth rate of 9-10% per year by 2030, GRDP per capita reaching 6,000 USD, urbanization rate of about 70%, and being in the leading group of the country in terms of Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI), Administrative Reform Index (PAR Index)...
