Prime Minister requests to rectify and strengthen occupational safety and hygiene work

Recently, there have been a series of serious work accidents that have killed and injured many people, affecting production, socio-economic development, and causing psychological instability for workers.

On May 21, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed and issued Official Dispatch No. 51/CD-TTg on rectifying and strengthening occupational safety and hygiene.

The telegram sent to Ministers, Heads of ministerial-level agencies, Government agencies; Chairmen of People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities, stated that in recent years, occupational safety and hygiene work has been promoted and achieved positive results.

However, recently, there have been a series of serious work accidents that have killed and injured many people, affecting production, socio-economic development, and causing psychological instability among workers.

In order to promptly rectify occupational safety and hygiene work, ensuring absolute safety for workers, the Prime Minister requested: The Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to strengthen state management according to assigned functions and tasks; regularly inspect and ensure strict implementation of policies and laws on occupational safety and hygiene, especially at key projects and works, in areas with high risks of occupational accidents, at enterprises managing and using machinery and equipment with strict requirements on occupational safety and hygiene; urgently develop and submit to competent authorities for promulgation a Plan to implement Directive No. 31-CT/TW dated March 19, 2024 of the Secretariat of the 13th Party Central Committee on continuing to strengthen the Party's leadership over occupational safety and hygiene work in the new situation.

The Minister of Information and Communications, General Director of Vietnam Television, Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam News Agency shall promote propaganda work, raise awareness of employers and employees on occupational safety and hygiene; publicize violations on mass media and typical advanced examples, good experiences, valuable lessons on ensuring occupational safety and hygiene nationwide.

Ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies and government agencies direct their subordinate units and enterprises operating in the management sector to carefully review regulations, standards and procedures on occupational safety and hygiene in production and business activities, promptly overcome shortcomings and limitations, and ensure absolute safety for workers; strengthen inspection and strictly handle organizations and individuals violating regulations on occupational safety and hygiene, especially for key projects and enterprises with high risks of occupational accidents.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of the province or centrally-run city shall promote the responsibility of the head for occupational safety and hygiene, considering this a regular, long-term task of great significance in the socio-economic development of the locality, ensuring human security; encourage enterprises to proactively invest, implement preventive measures, strengthen self-inspection, supervision, and drills to minimize occupational accidents and diseases; regularly inspect compliance with regulations on occupational safety and hygiene; promptly detect and replicate good models and effective practices and strictly handle violations.
