INTERNATIONAL VISITORS TO VIETNAM INCREASED

Reporting on the orientation and solutions for rapid and sustainable development of Vietnam's tourism, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that in 2023, in the context of many international and domestic challenges, with the close leadership and direction of the Government and Prime Minister, the activeness of ministries, branches, localities, and the support of the people and business community, the Vietnamese tourism industry has achieved some outstanding results.

Mechanisms and policies to support tourism development and tourism businesses continue to be reviewed, adjusted, supplemented and issued promptly. Issues to facilitate international tourists have changed dramatically, especially exit, entry and visa procedures.

Tourism products are renewed, more attractive and more competitive. Many new destinations are invested in, the system of technical infrastructure serving tourism is improved. Tourism development is developed within the overall work of foreign culture, preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage, sports activities, and trade and investment promotion activities.

Tourism events are organized with focus, key points, attractiveness, spreading in localities, the awareness of the whole society about the role, position, and contribution of the tourism industry has changed positively.

In the first 10 months of 2023, the number of international visitors to Vietnam reached nearly 10 million, 4.6 times higher than the same period last year, exceeding the annual plan; domestic visitors reached 98.7 million; total revenue from tourists reached 582.6 trillion VND.

According to the synthesis of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, tourism is a bright spot in economic recovery. The results of tourism recovery have a spillover effect on many fields, contributing to improving the three growth drivers of the economy: investment, export and consumption.

Along with that, Vietnam tourism received 54 awards from the World Travel Awards 2023, notably the awards "Asia's Leading Destination 2023" and "Asia's Leading Nature Destination 2023", continuing to affirm the brand and position of Vietnam tourism in the international market.

In addition to the achievements, the Vietnamese tourism industry still faces many difficulties and challenges. The number of international tourists to Vietnam has recovered relatively slowly, not meeting the expectations of leaders, the industry, and the business community.

At the conference, leaders of ministries, sectors, localities, Vietnam Tourism Association, tourism businesses and experts focused on analyzing and clarifying internal issues of the tourism industry; proposing and advising orientations and solutions to innovate the competitive foundation, finding new growth drivers for rapid and sustainable development.

DEVELOPING VIETNAM TOURISM FAST AND SUSTAINABLE

Concluding the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that the Government is determined to lead, direct and operate the tourism industry as a spearhead economic sector according to Resolution No. 08-NQ/TW of the Politburo.

Basically agreeing with the report on the outstanding results of the tourism industry in recent times, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam has a favorable geographical location, a synchronized transportation system, abundant human resources, majestic nature, rich and unique national culture, and gentle and sincere people.

However, there are still some shortcomings and limitations in tourism such as incomplete institutions; tourism products do not really have a focus, key points, and are unique to Vietnam. Joint ventures and associations are still loose, there is still the phenomenon of "each person doing their own thing"; a national and international tourism service chain has not been created, and tourism products are not unique.

Not many cultural and sports events of international scale have been organized to become tourism product brands. Tourism promotion and advertising must be more proactive, and resource allocation is still scattered and spread out. Tourism management needs to be managed intelligently.

Emphasizing the viewpoint on tourism development, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that it is necessary to raise full and comprehensive awareness of the role, importance and value of the tourism industry for national development, thereby promoting the positivity, proactiveness and creativity of relevant entities.

Tourism development must be placed in the overall development of socio-economic sectors as a spearhead economic sector. Seize the opportunity, take advantage of the opportunity to develop the ecosystem, develop rapidly and sustainably, create momentum to promote the development of other sectors and fields. Tourism development is a common responsibility of the entire political system, of all levels, sectors, and of the whole society, strongly promoting the role of enterprises.

Promote decentralization and delegation of authority, along with resource allocation, resolutely cut down on cumbersome administrative procedures. Develop tourism in a professional, quality, and effective direction, gradually shifting from breadth to depth, continuing to promote outstanding potentials and competitive advantages associated with protecting the environment, natural resources, traditional culture, and the beauty of the country and people of Vietnam.

Noting the key tasks, the Prime Minister emphasized that Resolution No. 82 of the Government has determined that products must be unique; services must be professional; procedures must be convenient and simple; prices must be competitive; the environment must be clean and beautiful; and the destination must be safe, friendly and smart.

All levels, sectors, localities and enterprises need to thoroughly grasp and seriously implement Resolution No. 08 of the Politburo and Resolution No. 82 of the Government, with the motto: Close connection, smooth coordination, comprehensive cooperation.

On the other hand, forming regional links, driving tourism growth, forming one route but many destinations. Continuing to invest in synchronous development of socio-economic infrastructure, especially logistics infrastructure, towards strengthening regional, provincial and national linkages. Strengthening public-private partnership relations according to market mechanisms in the spirit of harmonious benefits and shared risks.

There are mechanisms and policies to effectively mobilize resources from businesses, especially large businesses investing in tourism development. Promote appropriate governance models, develop tourism, create a favorable business environment, encourage startups, innovation and creativity.

The Prime Minister also requested to focus on training human resources for tourism, building new and unique tourism models and products, on the basis of promoting outstanding potential, competitive advantages, and expanding new and potential markets.

At the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assigned specific tasks to ministries, branches, localities, Tourism Associations, and tourism businesses...
