Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attends the Cultural Festival for Peace - Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital

On the morning of October 6, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation Day of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024) and the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being awarded the title "City for Peace" by UNESCO (July 16, 1999 - July 16, 2024), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the program "Cultural Festival for Peace" at Hoan Kiem Lake area - the historical and cultural symbol of the Capital. The event was organized by the Hanoi Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Hanoi Fatherland Front Committee.

Also attending were Politburo members, Party Central Committee Secretaries: Luong Cuong, Standing member of the Secretariat; Do Van Chien, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Nguyen Trong Nghia, Head of the Central Propaganda Department; representatives of leaders of ministries, departments, branches, central agencies, Hanoi city, diplomatic agencies, and international organizations.

The program is an opportunity to honor the historical traditions of Hanoi, at the same time promoting the image of the peace-loving capital to all its people and international friends.

"Culture for Peace Festival" is a key event in a series of unique cultural activities, with profound significance in honoring the historical value of the Capital Liberation Day, and at the same time looking back at 25 years since Hanoi received the title "City for Peace" from UNESCO, affirming the city's continuous efforts in preserving and promoting cultural and historical values, while building an increasingly civilized, modern, internationally integrated Capital.

Before the event, the delegation of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front, Hanoi city led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh Leading the incense offering ceremony at the Ly Thai To King Monument, commemorating the great contributions of our ancestors to the cause of liberating and building the capital.

Next was a special flag-raising ceremony, recreating the first flag-raising ceremony in Hanoi on October 10, 1954, after the capital was liberated. In that solemn atmosphere, about 10,000 delegates attended and sang the National Anthem, creating a particularly sacred moment, expressing national pride and the desire for peace.

One of the highlights of the program is the vivid reenactment of the image of the army marching towards Hanoi on the historic moment of October 10, 1954, when the Vietnamese army took over the capital, marking the end of colonial rule.

This heroic moment was recreated through large-scale live performances, with the participation of nearly 1,000 soldiers and 200 artists and dancers. Familiar images such as Long Bien Bridge, where the army entered to take over the capital, or Hanoi Flag Tower, where the red flag with yellow star fluttered in the first flag-raising ceremony on October 10, 1954, were clearly recreated on stage, bringing deep emotions to the audience.

The main stage of the event was elaborately staged in the Hoan Kiem Lake area, using live language to recreate historical relics and famous places associated with the capital such as Hanoi Gate, Doan Mon Gate (Imperial Citadel of Thang Long), Long Bien Bridge, and Hanoi Flag Tower. Thereby, the program created a unique historical and cultural space, helping people and tourists relive the heroic historical moments of Hanoi throughout the 70 years since the Liberation Day of the Capital.

“Culture for Peace Festival” is also the largest gathering place for artisans, artists and people representing 30 districts, towns and cities of the capital. More than 8,000 people, including 5,000 people and representatives of forces from districts, towns and cities, will participate in parades and performances of folk art and culture, including intangible cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO and the country, along with the unique traditional cultural beauty of the capital.

Art forms such as ca tru, water puppetry, hat xam... and religious heritages such as the worship of Tan Vien Son Thanh, Hai Ba Trung, and Thanh Giong, were all performed at the program, giving the audience an insight into the everlasting cultural values ​​of the capital Hanoi.

In particular, the art performance introduced the culinary culture and traditional craft village products of the capital such as Bat Trang pottery village, Van Phuc silk village, Quat Dong embroidery, Phu Vinh bamboo and rattan weaving... Hanoi's typical dishes such as Com Vong, Uoc Le sausage, Thanh Tri rice rolls, Phu Do vermicelli... These products not only reflect the ingenuity and creativity of Hanoians but also demonstrate the uniqueness and richness of Vietnamese culture.

"Culture Festival for Peace" is divided into three main parts, including: Memories of Hanoi ; Heritage Flow ; Hanoi: City for peace, creative city . "Cultural Festival for Peace" is a major cultural event of Hanoi, expected to create a special media effect, spreading the historical and cultural values ​​of the capital to the whole country and international friends. Through this event, Hanoi not only affirms its position as a historical and cultural city but also an important tourism, economic and political center of the whole country.

Organizing the "Cultural Festival for Peace" is also part of the strategy to develop cultural industrial products associated with the annual events celebrating the Capital Liberation Day, contributing to promoting cultural tourism and sustainable economic development for the Capital.

Speaking at the event, comrade Tran Sy Thanh, member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee emphasized that, promoting the historical and heroic tradition, with the position and role as the national political and administrative center, a major center of economy, culture, education, science and technology and international integration of the whole country, the Party Committee, government and people of Hanoi have been making efforts and determination to carry out and complete the mission of the Capital with a new vision, new stature, new position, building a civilized, modern, globally connected Capital, a safe and friendly destination for international friends.

Part of a series of anniversary events 70 years of the Liberation Day of the Capital, the Cultural Festival for Peace aims to spread the message about the cultural values, peace and creativity of the people of Thang Long - Hanoi through the ages... The festival is also an opportunity for us to honor the culture, cultural identity for peace of the Capital Hanoi, the land of talented people, where the heroic spirit of Thang Long, the sacred soul of the mountains and rivers, the place where Vietnamese intelligence crystallizes and shines, shining with conscience and human dignity.

At this historic and sacred moment, we respectfully express our infinite gratitude to our ancestors and previous generations who have contributed to the founding and construction of the ancient Thang Long Citadel - Hanoi today. We respectfully remember and express our infinite gratitude to the great President Ho Chi Minh, revolutionary predecessors, heroic martyrs, generations of people, armed forces of Hanoi and the whole country, and our overseas Vietnamese who have contributed their efforts and materials to the construction and protection of the Capital.

Hanoi City sincerely thanks the attention and close and timely direction of the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front leaders, and the effective support and assistance of localities and international friends in the process of building and developing the capital city of Hanoi.

This is also an opportunity for us to continue affirming the noble qualities, good traditions, culture, heroism, peace and friendship of the capital and the Vietnamese people. That is also the way of life, the morality, the style of behavior, the cultural tradition, the aspiration for peace of the people of Hanoi, of the Vietnamese people. That is also the priceless heritage left by our ancestors, we cherish, preserve, promote, spread and pass on to future generations.

Speaking at the program, Ms. Pauline Tamesis, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Vietnam, emphasized that the capital city of Hanoi, with more than 1,000 years of culture and history, has always demonstrated a strong will and a strong revival. Immediately after the historic liberation day, the Hanoi government led all classes of people to rise up and strive to build an integrated, prosperous and innovative capital. The capital city of Hanoi was recognized by UNESCO as a "City for Peace" in 1999 and a "Creative City" in 2019, affirming the city's continuous efforts to innovate over the years. The United Nations has always maintained a long-term and effective relationship with Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular, accompanying Hanoi in its spectacular transformation since being recognized by UNESCO as the first Creative City in Vietnam.

Ms. Pauline Tamesis assessed that Hanoi city always pays attention to preserving and promoting tangible and intangible heritages; Hanoi's history is always intertwined with modernity, innovation and creativity. With the high determination of Hanoi leaders in enhancing public-private cooperation to develop the cultural and creative industries, focusing on young people, it can be seen that Hanoi has identified culture as one of the important driving forces for socio-economic development.

Hanoi has been effectively mobilizing resources from the young generation to participate in the innovation process, striving to become a more livable city for all people. According to her, the celebration is a typical example affirming Hanoi's success in realizing the vision of becoming the Cultural and Creative Capital of Vietnam; expressing that the United Nations and UNESCO are honored to cooperate with Hanoi in implementing many cooperation projects over the past 25 years, contributing to the sustainable development of the city. Ms. Pauline Tamesis said in Vietnamese at the end of her speech: "Once again, congratulations to Hanoi and thank you."
