Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife arrived in Bucharest, beginning an official visit to Romania from January 20-22.
After attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland and visiting Hungary, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife Le Thi Bich Tran arrived in Bucharest on the afternoon of January 20, beginning an official visit to Romania at the invitation of Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
During the visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to hold talks and meetings with Prime Minister Ciolacu, President Klaus-Werner Iohannis and other leaders and senior officials of the country; attend the Vietnam - Romania Business Forum and visit research institutes and universities, among other activities.

Vietnam established diplomatic relations with Romania in 1950. During the period 1950-1989, Romania provided aid and loans to Vietnam to develop a number of economic sectors. After the country changed its political regime at the end of 1989, the two countries continued to develop relations and cooperate in many aspects.
Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Romania has grown continuously, doubling from more than 200 million USD in 2018 to more than 400 million USD in 2022.
Vietnam's main exports include coffee, seafood, pepper, textiles, leather shoes, and computer components. Romania's main imports include chemicals, fertilizers, construction steel, plastic pellets, oil and gas drilling equipment, and wood products. Since 2010, Romania has been ranked among Vietnam's major seafood export markets, with about 12,000 tons per year.
By the end of 2022, Romania had 5 valid direct investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered investment capital of 1.56 million USD, ranking 42nd out of 143 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.
