After a student wore a frangipani hair clip to class and received many compliments on its beauty, last week, Ngoc Anh and her colleagues teaching at a tutoring center in District 7 (Ho Chi Minh City) were given hair clips of this type by their boss.

"These hair clips are very pretty, and you can choose the color you like. The boss bought them for his employees so they can wear them together. The clips are also cheap, so it's easy to catch the trend," said Ms. Anh.

Fluctuating around 10,000 VND each, porcelain flower hair clips have become a new trending business item of the online retail community recently. The clip is made of acrylic plastic, the common size is equivalent to a real porcelain flower (6cm x 8cm), weighs 50 grams and comes in a variety of colors.

This trend is said to have originated from a design by the American hair clip brand Emi Jay. Many manufacturers followed suit and were widely promoted by users on social networks.

According to data from YouNet Media's social media listening platform SocialHeat, in the past two months, the frangipani flower clip attracted more than 123,700 discussions; 2.3 million interactions from more than 83,200 TikTok and Facebook users.

Over the past two months, the 10 most popular shops on TikTok Shop have sold 88,200 porcelain flower hair clips, earning nearly 1.2 billion VND, according to statistics from e-commerce data company YouNet ECI.

On Shopee, 10 shops earned 13.4 billion VND by selling 834,000 ceramic flower clips. Top shops can earn hundreds of millions from this item. For example, on TikTok Shop, the shop that sold the most was more than 40,000 pieces, earning more than 595 million VND after two months. The same shop on Shopee earned 380 million VND.

Ms. Anh Thu, who sells porcelain flower clips in Tan Phu District (Ho Chi Minh City), said that this is not a new product, but it has become popular thanks to trends on social networks, with new models being released continuously. "Old models cost around 5,000-8,000 VND, while new models cost over 20,000 VND each," Ms. Thu said. The popular model is the transparent or mirror-coated hologram porcelain flower, originating from China.

According to Mr. Nguyen Phuong Lam, Director of YouNet ECI Market Analysis Department, the cases of earning hundreds of millions are thanks to the stores being sensitive to trends right from the moment the product first appeared on social networks.

"Brands that can take advantage of shopping discussion trends as soon as they appear will have a big advantage when selling online," said Mr. Lam.

In addition, stores that invest in sales channels and video content have greater business opportunities. For example, the best-selling store TikTok Shop has long built a channel with more than 50,000 followers, regularly updating videos about products. In the past two months, they have posted 95 videos about porcelain flower clips, an average of 2 product videos per day. Clips updating colors or "unboxing" products also attract significant attention, some with more than 500,000 views.

According to Ms. Thu, unlike other business trends that "bloom early and fade quickly", frangipani hair clips are expected to have a better life cycle, possibly up to 6 months.

"This item is useful. After frangipani, there are also orchids and we don't know what other designs will come out. Some shops even use clips to make flower bouquets for gifts or decoration," she said.
