University urgently returns over 37 billion VND in tuition fees to students after collecting wrongly

The above information was announced by the leaders of Thu Dau Mot University to the press on the morning of October 22, at a press conference on the socio-economic situation, national defense and security in the first 9 months of the year organized by the People's Committee of Binh Duong province.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Chairman of the Board of Thu Dau Mot University, regarding the illegal collection of tuition fees of more than 37 billion VND, the People's Committee of Binh Duong province has directed the school to return the difference to students.

"The school is focusing on reviewing student data and coordinating with relevant units to handle the matter as soon as possible. The school will also try to handle it in a harmonious and correct manner, ensuring the rights of students," said Mr. Cuong.

As Dan Tri reported, previously, the state audit discovered that in the two school years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022, Thu Dau Mot University collected tuition fees from students in violation of regulations of more than 37 billion VND.

Immediately after the state audit announced its conclusion, the People's Committee of Binh Duong province directed Thu Dau Mot University to refund the students (if unable to refund, it would be paid to the budget) the tuition fees collected in excess of the prescribed level. After that, the school paid the entire amount of illegally collected money to the state budget.

In addition, the People's Committee of Binh Duong province also requested to consider handling collective and individual responsibilities (if any) for Thu Dau Mot University due to collecting tuition fees for regular university programs, university programs using the continuing education method, master's and doctoral training programs in the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years higher than the prescribed ceiling.
