Reuters reported that Mr. Haniyeh is expected to meet with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other senior Iranian officials.
The move came a day after the United Nations Security Council (UN) passed a resolution calling for a ceasefire in the war between Hamas and Israel.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani called the resolution “a positive step,” adding: “The more important step is to effectively implement this resolution.”
Hamas also welcomed the UN resolution but insisted that the ceasefire must be permanent.
Previously, on March 25, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian and High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell had a phone call to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Mr. Amir-Abdollahian expressed concern about the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, and condemned Israel's offensive in the territory.
He called for immediate humanitarian assistance to the blockaded Palestinian Mediterranean strip.
