Overpass worth nearly 700 billion opens to eliminate 'traffic jam' black spot in Hai Phong

The overpass at the Ton Duc Thang - Mang Nuoc intersection (An Duong district, Hai Phong city) has just been completed and opened to traffic, contributing to solving the black spot of traffic congestion of trucks, containers... along National Highway 5 - Nguyen Van Linh after more than a year of construction.

Hai Phong Department of Transport has just announced the separation of two-way traffic flows through the Ton Duc Thang - Mang Nuoc - National Highway 5 overpass, located in An Duong district.

Accordingly, vehicles (trucks, cars, containers...) moving along National Highway 5 - Nguyen Van Linh to the port and vice versa can move across the overpass. Meanwhile, motorbikes, rudimentary vehicles or cars moving in the direction of Mang Nuoc - Ton Duc Thang; Mang Nuoc - Nam Cau Binh will move in the lane under the overpass.

On the first day of the overpass’ opening, tens of thousands of trucks, buses, and cars traveled across the overpass. Police were mobilized to assist in traffic flow and ensure traffic safety and order at the newly constructed intersection.

Many people who witnessed the moment the overpass opened to traffic were happy because the newly built overpass will solve the traffic congestion of trucks and containers along Nguyen Van Linh - National Highway 5 for many years.

Mr. Huy (a local) said that for many years, a large number of vehicles traveling through National Highway 5 - Nguyen Van Linh to the port and vice versa has caused this route to be overloaded during rush hour. When the project was under construction, the route was congested day and night, directly affecting the lives and travel of people in An Duong and Hong Bang districts.

Mr. Huy expressed his joy because the completed intersection and the opening of the overpass will solve the truck congestion problem and free up lanes for local people to move.

The Investment Project to build a grade-separated interchange at the intersection of Ton Duc Thang - Mang Nuoc - National Highway 5 (An Duong District) was started in January 2023 with a total investment of 688 billion VND. The project has a 787m long overpass along National Highway 5 that has been completed and opened to traffic. The roundabout with 4 service roads on both sides of the bridge is still being completed by contractors.

When the roundabout under the overpass is completed, the project is expected to solve the black spot of traffic congestion on Highway 5. At the same time, it will shorten the distance and be a highlight of the traffic route and economic development between An Duong district and Hong Bang district.
