"I and all the staff in the restaurant were very surprised when we received the news that Apple CEO - Tim Cook was visiting. We only had a few minutes to prepare but tried our best to be as careful and friendly as possible, creating a comfortable atmosphere for the CEO to sit and drink coffee with singers My Linh and My Anh", Ms. Nguyen Hoang Yen, manager of the restaurant and coffee shop at 48 Hang Be (Hoang Kiem, Hanoi) shared.
It is known that the CEO appeared at the shop from 10:30 am on April 15 and had a 30-minute conversation. He and singer My Linh and her children enjoyed egg coffee and sunflower seeds.
The Apple CEO then wrote on X a photo taken at the shop and shared: "Hello Vietnam! Thank you to the talented artists My Linh and My Anh for their warm welcome. And I also love egg coffee."
Tim Cook's photo and post quickly attracted attention on social media. The coffee shop he visited was also "hunted" by netizens.
"After the CEO's photo appeared, we continuously received calls from the media and diners," said Ms. Yen.
The event organizers did not have any special requests for drinks and trusted the restaurant. However, they noted that the restaurant's managers and staff were not allowed to use technology products other than Apple's.
Restaurant 48 Hang Be was renovated from an old French villa in the heart of Hanoi. After 4 generations, the restaurant still retains its original ancient features, with walls painted in a striking yellow tone, wooden furniture, colorful patterns, and colorful lanterns, enhancing the ancient features.
According to Ms. Hoang Yen, this is one of five ancient French villas that a French businessman has renovated and operated as a restaurant for a long time. The unique architectural features are cherished and preserved to promote to tourists around the world when they come to Vietnam.
This place has welcomed many distinguished guests such as the French Ambassador, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin...
"When we rented this location for business, we tried to preserve it, just repaint it, and change it a little bit to suit the restaurant service. 90% of our customers are foreigners. They really like this architecture with yellow walls and red lanterns," said Ms. Yen.
Like many old French villas, this place has a garden-oriented architecture to be close to nature, bringing light and wind into the interior space. The house has high ceilings and large windows.
The restaurant has just reopened for 5 months. It welcomes guests from 11am-2pm and 6pm-10pm daily. The restaurant serves many typical Hanoi drinks, including egg coffee. In addition, there is a diverse menu of traditional Vietnamese dishes with vermicelli soup, pho, papaya salad with dried beef...
Although located in the center of the old town, the restaurant is considered to have affordable prices. The lunch menu includes 3 dishes (appetizer, main course and dessert) for 180,000 VND.
At the end of 2023, author Ed Peters of SCMP published an article suggesting things to do when traveling to the capital Hanoi. In it, Ed Peters mentioned the restaurant 48 Hang Be - a luxurious restaurant with a unique design, resembling ancient houses from the French colonial period, serving Vietnamese cuisine combined with European cuisine.
"Located in a century-old high-ceilinged building with a quiet courtyard, it offers a wide range of delicious traditional Vietnamese dishes at reasonable prices. The restaurant is designed with sturdy wooden tables arranged in a neat and leisurely atmosphere," the author wrote.
