On May 13, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training issued a document on enrollment in grade 6 at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted for the 2023-2024 school year. The school was assigned to enroll 525 grade 6 students in the form of an aptitude test as every year.
Candidates for the school's 6th grade entrance exam will take the test on July 4. The time limit for all sections of the aptitude test is 90 minutes.
Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted is the only school in Ho Chi Minh City that is allowed by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to enroll 6th grade students using an aptitude test. (Illustration photo)
Specifically, candidates will take a test on abilities such as language (English, Vietnamese - writing); mathematics and logical thinking; natural sciences, social sciences (History - Geography); and common sense. The test format includes multiple choice and essay questions.
In the multiple choice section, candidates will take a 20-question test in English on their understanding of natural sciences, social sciences and common sense. The test will take 30 minutes.
In the essay section, candidates will have 60 minutes to complete the following tasks:
English Proficiency Test: Listening, Reading, Comprehension, Writing. Candidates take the test in English.
Test of mathematical and logical thinking ability; test of reading comprehension and writing ability. Candidates take the test in Vietnamese.
This is the only school in Ho Chi Minh City that is allowed by the City People's Committee to enroll 6th grade students using an aptitude test, instead of an admission test like other schools.
The admission requirements are that students have completed primary school in Ho Chi Minh City and have a score of 9 or higher on the final exam of grade 5 in Vietnamese and Math. The age of students entering grade 6 is 11 years old (according to a valid birth certificate).
