Along with the dragon mascot displayed at Vinh city's spring garden, the dragon mascot at Ong Hoang Muoi Temple (Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An) received the attention of Nghe An people before the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin.
The dragon is about 1 meter high and 2 meters long, designed in the image of "dragon giving pearl". What is special is that the dragon is carved from foam with vivid, majestic lines, sprayed with yellow and red paint, and the scales are made from plastic pieces.
According to the original landscape design of Ong Hoang Muoi Temple, the dragon displayed in front of the temple gate is a printed dragon.
"Seeing that I still had time, I decided to carve a dragon to make it more vivid and attractive. It took me 3 nights to make this dragon," said Vo Trong Tung (living in Vinh City, Nghe An) - the author of the dragon.
According to Mr. Tung, creating shapes from foam is already difficult, creating a dragon is even more difficult. With a block of foam, Mr. Tung uses a welding machine to "sculpt" into a dragon. Every action of the craftsman must be carefully calculated to avoid mistakes because if there is a mistake, it cannot be fixed.
With precise calculation and skillful hands of the craftsman, the image of the dragon is vivid with every detail. Besides, the effect of color gives the dragon a majestic look.
"Making a dragon is very difficult because no one has actually seen what a dragon looks like. I studied images of dragons in books, documents, temples and pagodas from different periods and then imagined in my head how to create a beautiful dragon.
The budget to make the dragon was less than 10 million VND. I used a foam base with an iron frame underneath to fix the dragon and decorate the flower pots. Luckily, when it was "launched", the dragon product made from foam received many compliments," said Mr. Tung.
Workers stay up 3 nights "without mistakes allowed" to create foam dragon (Video: H. Lam).
The dragon gives jade as a symbol of a fresh and lucky start, as a wish for everyone and every family to welcome a new year with lots of luck and prosperity.
Ong Hoang Muoi Temple is one of the spiritual addresses that welcomes many visitors from all over the world to come and worship at the beginning of the new year. Besides praying for peace, health, luck, and fortune according to folk beliefs, this temple is very sacred in praying for fame and fortune.
