At this time, the purchasing power of Tet goods in the Ha Tinh market has increased compared to previous days but is not really as vibrant and bustling as previous Tet seasons.
Items such as candy, nuts, jams... are chosen by many customers.
At this time, records at supermarkets, stores, and traditional markets show that goods imported by retailers and traders are diverse in types and designs, from essential goods to Tet decoration products.
Prices of essential goods and food are currently basically stable as usual. In the context of economic difficulties, many large supermarkets have implemented promotional programs such as discounts, gifts, vouchers, points accumulation... for many consumer products to stimulate purchasing power. Retailers commented that items with price fluctuations often fall on the days before Tet (after December 25 of the lunar calendar) with groups of products such as: fresh food, fresh fruit, fresh flowers, betel nuts, flowers, ornamental plants...
In terms of purchasing power, at this time, the market has begun to bustle, the number of customers has increased by 30 - 40% compared to normal days. In addition to daily consumer goods, items such as candy, nuts, jams, soft drinks, household appliances, Tet gift baskets, decorative items... are of interest to customers to learn about and choose to buy quite a lot.
Ms. Bui Thi Mai Phuong (Thach Ha town) shared: “Taking advantage of the past weekend, my husband and I went shopping for some Tet items such as boxed cakes, beer, and peach blossoms. Now we don’t stock up on as many things as before, we just buy enough for use and buy more when we need it after Tet. In general, the product designs this year are the same as every year, diverse, and prices have not increased.”
Winmart Ha Tinh Supermarket prioritizes displaying Tet products in locations convenient for customers to shop.
However, according to business owners, this year's Tet market seems to "enter the season" later and is not as vibrant or has a sudden increase in purchasing power as in previous years.
Mr. Vo Cong Hai - Director of Winmart Ha Tinh supermarket said: "The Tet market this year is quieter than previous Tet seasons. Purchasing power at this time has increased by about 30% compared to normal days but decreased sharply compared to the same period in previous years. In people's shopping baskets, at this time, there are still mainly daily consumer products, it is estimated that only about 50% of customers buy products for Tet."
Ms. Phan Thi Minh - owner of Thao Minh household appliances and decorative electrical appliances store (Co Dam commune, Nghi Xuan) shared: "Last year, although there was still a COVID-19 pandemic, goods sold better. This year, the number of customers has decreased significantly. It is now almost December 20, but the Tet atmosphere is still quite quiet, while customers often buy household products early. From now until Tet, we hope that people will buy more decorative lights."
Traders say that this year the economic situation is difficult, people are tightening their spending, so purchasing power has decreased.
Regarding the reason for the decrease in purchasing power compared to previous years, many retailers said that this year, the economic situation is difficult, so consumers are tightening their spending. In addition, nowadays, the demand for shopping and consumption during Tet is also saturated, people no longer shop and stockpile as much as before.
Meanwhile, many retailers also believe that the peak of the Tet market will be from after the Ong Cong and Ong Tao worshiping ceremony (ie December 23rd of the lunar calendar) until the end of December, so they expect purchasing power to increase next week.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hai (Nguyen Du Ward, Ha Tinh City) - a peach vendor on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street said: "This year, we imported 500 peach branches and started selling them from the 16th of the 12th lunar month. The selling price ranges from 2.5 to 4 million VND. In the first days, the market was still quite deserted, partly because the weather was cold, so many people were hesitant to go shopping for Tet. Hopefully in the coming days, when people receive their bonuses and take a holiday, the weather will be favorable, and the number of customers will be more crowded."
Mr. Nguyen Van Hai started importing peach blossom branches to sell from the 16th day of the 12th lunar month.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, at this time, the consumer market situation is basically stable, the supply of goods is guaranteed to serve the needs of people shopping for Tet. The closer to Tet, the more seasonal goods such as flowers, ornamental plants, decorative items, etc. are imported. However, this year, the economic situation is difficult, so in general, the Tet market is quieter, purchasing power is not as high as in previous years.
“To help people feel secure during Tet shopping, from now until Tet, the Department of Industry and Trade will continue to coordinate with relevant agencies and localities to closely monitor the business situation, ensuring stable supply - demand and circulation of goods. At the same time, step up propaganda, check the origin, quality, and control the prices of goods, especially essential goods,” emphasized Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Vo Ta Nghia.
