The match between Vietnam and Iraq no longer affects the performance of the two teams in the group stage of the 2023 Asian Cup. Vietnam is definitely eliminated after two losses, while Iraq has already advanced to the next round as the top team.

However, coach Philippe Troussier and his students are determined to have good results on the farewell day.

In fact, the Vietnamese team entered the game confidently and had many open attacks. However, the team still did not have any truly dangerous opportunities.

In the 17th minute, the Vietnamese team had a chance to open the score when from Minh Trong's cross, Zaid Tahseen put the ball into his own net.

However, after reviewing VAR, the goal was canceled. This was a controversial decision by the referees.

In the 38th minute, Iraq had a dangerous opportunity when Zidane had space to shoot but the ball flew right into the reach of goalkeeper Nguyen Filip.

Maintaining a relatively bright style of play, in the 42nd minute, Vietnam opened the score when Khuat Van Khang took a free kick, Bui Hoang Viet Anh rushed in and leaned over to finish. This time the goal was recognized, helping the Vietnamese team lead Iraq 1-0.

The match became more intense when in the 45+3 minute, Khuat Van Khang received a second yellow card and had to leave the field, leaving the Vietnamese team with only 10 players.

The first half of the match ended with a score of 1-0 in favor of Vietnam.

In the following minutes of the second half, the Vietnamese team was quite clumsy in defending high balls. In the 55th minute, Nguyen Filip had to save a header from Iraq.

It was not until the 70th minute that Vietnam had a chance to approach the opponent's goal. From a cross from his teammate, Van Toan took control of the space and then rushed in to head the ball but it went weak and goalkeeper Al Fadhli caught it.

After a few wasted chances, Iraq took the lead in the 73rd minute. It was still a high ball and Aymen Hussein headed the ball into the net from close range to make it 2-1.

Difficulties piled up when the Vietnamese team was constantly pressed and in a contested situation, Viet Anh made a dangerous tackle, leading to a foul on Youssef Amyn in the penalty area. However, Aymen Hussein missed the opportunity from the penalty spot when he hit the post himself.

Despite the pressure, the 10 "golden star warriors" continued to play resiliently and courageously. The precious goal came to the Vietnamese team in the 90+3 minute when Quang Hai was the one who shined with a left-footed shot from close range, helping to equalize the score 2-2 for Vietnam.

The final minutes continued to be full of intense and challenging battles for coach Troussier's team.

The pressure was constantly on goalkeeper Nguyen Filip's goal, and in the 90+12 minute, Vietnam continued to suffer a penalty. This time, luck did not smile on the Vietnamese team as Aymen Hussein successfully kicked the penalty, helping Iraq lead 3-2 and take all 3 points.

The match ended with a score of 3-2 in favor of the Iraqi team.
