Two more Vietnamese police officers join UN peacekeeping mission

On May 29, authorized by the President, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council, and Commander of the People's Armed Forces, the Ministry of Public Security held a ceremony to hand over the President's Decision to two People's Public Security (PPP) officers to perform United Nations peacekeeping missions at the UNISFA mission (Abyei region).

Equipping knowledge and advisory skills for peacekeeping officers at the United Nations

Vietnam has had over 800 officers and soldiers participating in United Nations peacekeeping in 10 years.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang presented decisions to two officers to carry out the United Nations peacekeeping mission at the UNISFA mission (Abyei region) in 2024, including Major Vu Tran Thang and Captain Nguyen Lan Anh.

In his speech assigning tasks, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang acknowledged and praised the contributions, efforts, sense of responsibility and enthusiasm of the members of the Steering Committee, the Standing Office of the Ministry of Public Security on United Nations peacekeeping and related units in implementing the Project on the Vietnam People's Public Security participating in United Nations peacekeeping activities. He congratulated the two excellent public security officers who were selected by the United Nations and received the decision of the President to participate in peacekeeping activities.

Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang stated that officers need to unify their awareness that participating in UN peacekeeping activities is an important task for the country in general and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in particular; is one of the specific actions that directly contribute to maintaining and creating sustainable peace and security in the world and the region. This is also an honor and pride; at the same time, it sets new responsibilities for each individual who receives the decision.

He requested that the two officers performing the UN peacekeeping mission at the UNISFA mission (Abei region) in 2024 strictly comply with the regulations of the United Nations, the host country, and the regulations of the Ministry of Public Security when operating abroad. In addition, the two officers need to closely coordinate with the Army officers performing the peacekeeping mission at the Mission; maintain internal solidarity, coordinate with international colleagues, demonstrate the spirit of solidarity and unity. Proactively protect internal political security for Vietnamese forces when participating in UN peacekeeping operations. Continuously learn, improve qualifications and skills; carefully prepare the necessary conditions; focus on ensuring health; prevent and fight epidemics, strive to overcome difficulties, and be determined to excellently complete the tasks assigned by the United Nations, the Party, the State, and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam...

According to the report of the Ministry of Public Security's Standing Office on United Nations peacekeeping, from October 2022 to present, the Ministry of Public Security has sent 2 working groups, including 6 officers, to perform the United Nations peacekeeping mission at the Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS); sent 1 officer to perform the mission at the Police Department, United Nations Headquarters in the form of an individual.

The Ministry of Public Security is finalizing the procedures for sending three new officers to perform peacekeeping duties at the UNMISS Mission in South Sudan (Task Force No. 4). At the same time, the Ministry of Public Security's Permanent Office for Peacekeeping is coordinating with relevant United Nations agencies; agencies inside and outside the sector are doing a good job of preparing conditions for Task Force No. 3 and Task Force No. 4 to depart for their missions.
