Vietnamese films released on the occasion of the September 2nd holiday this year all had good revenue, helping the domestic film market become vibrant again. However, the quality of the works is still controversial and has not really convinced viewers.

After a dismal summer, sales Vietnamese movies There were positive signs on the occasion of September 2nd. Last week was also a rare time this year when three Vietnamese films topped the charts. Box Office Vietnam , respectively Get rich with ghosts , Two Salts and ghost

However, the Vietnamese films that have been released have caused controversy about their quality. Although they incorporate many meaningful messages, the content of the films and the way they are presented build The script is not really convincing to the audience.

The topic is not diverse

Compared to previous years, this year audiences have fewer options when going to the cinema to watch Vietnamese films. Although they are of different genres, both Get rich with ghosts and Two Salts All revolve around family stories, sending messages about fatherhood.

Content Two Salts quite simple, telling the story of the main character, Mr. Hai (Quyen Linh) - working alone in the salt industry in Thieng Lieng island hamlet (Can Gio, Ho Chi Minh City) to raise his daughter Muoi (Bao Ngoc).

Growing up, Muoi decided to go to the city to study tourism to change his life, but encountered many storms that made Mr. Hai worried. From there, the film highlights the image of the main character as a hard-working father who loves his children with all his heart.

Get rich with ghosts was promoted as a comedy with spiritual elements. But in reality, only about 1/3 of the first time focuses on funny scenes. In the second part, the screenwriter suddenly changes direction, pushing viewers to a tragic family story, tinged with tears.

The film opens with Lanh (Tuan Tran) being a young man without a stable job, spending all day playing cockfighting leading to heavy debt.

Once when he was at his wits' end, he accidentally met a female ghost named Na (Diep Bao Ngoc) and she promised to help him earn money. In return, Lanh had to help the ghost find her child who had been lost 25 years ago.

But later on, the ghost story is just a background for the director to highlight the relationship between Lanh and his biological father, Mr. Dao (Hoai Linh).

Compared to Mr. Hai in Hai Muoi , Mr. Dao, was also miserable and not much luckier. However, he still loved and put all his faith in his rebellious son, despite his difficult family situation.

The main message of Getting Rich with Ghosts is still fatherly love and family affection.

The appearance of Get rich with ghosts and Two Salts somewhat reminiscent Flip Side 7: A Wish (Directed by Ly Hai) or The Godfather, Mrs. Nu's House (Tran Thanh). These works all won big in terms of revenue thanks to following a common formula: Released during major holidays and exploiting family stories that are close and easy to reach viewers.

Positive box office results show that this formula is still effective, but it also makes the Vietnamese film market monotonous as family-oriented films continuously appear, taking up all the theaters.

Quality is debatable

Despite good sales, both Get rich with ghosts and Two Salts but not yet convinced the audience about the quality.

Two Salts was criticized by many viewers for its content, old story and reminiscent of TV series from the 2000s. The script also has familiar mistakes of Vietnamese films, especially the forced dialogue. Some lines in the film also create a literary feeling, making the atmosphere in the film lose its naturalness.

The acting of Quyen Linh and People's Artist Hong Van in the film was highly appreciated, but could not save an outdated and unattractive script.

Meanwhile, Get rich with ghosts The idea is good but the script is flawed, the execution has many problems. The director is a bit greedy in his debut work, causing many segments to be rambling, long-winded, and lacking in conciseness. The way the work transitions from comedy to tragedy is not really smooth, the direction of the story resolution at the end of the film is not reasonable.

Both films released on September 2nd this year have caused controversy in terms of content and story handling.

In addition, many audiences expressed their boredom because they constantly saw familiar faces when going to the cinema to watch Vietnamese movies.

Two Salts marks the return of Quyen Linh after 20 years of not acting in movies. But the remaining cast are all familiar names such as People's Artist Hong Van, People's Artist Viet Anh, Meritorious Artist Cong Ninh, Minh Luan...

Similar, Get rich with ghosts It would be difficult to attract audiences without faces like Hoai Linh, Le Giang, Quang Minh, La Thanh... As for Tuan Tran, this is the third movie he has starred in released this year, after Tomorrow and Claws .

However, positive revenue is also a good sign for Vietnamese cinema. According to statistics of Box Office Vietnam , this year's Vietnamese film achievements are much more impressive than the previous two years. Specifically, Get rich with ghosts led the box office during the holiday weekend with a revenue of 24 billion VND, much higher than horror films. Zombie Island (2022) and action movies Anonymous (2023).

In general, this year's September 2nd holiday is considered a favorable time to release Vietnamese films because people have four days off, while the summer Hollywood blockbusters have also gradually cooled down.

The long absence of Vietnamese films has also helped the released works to be well received by the audience, although the quality is still somewhat limited.
