On March 15, 2022, Vietnam tourism fully reopened to international visitors under new normal conditions; since then, tourism has gradually recovered. The number of international tourists by the end of October 2023 exceeded the annual plan target, reaching more than 9.97 million; domestic tourists reached 98.7 million; total revenue from tourists reached 582.6 trillion VND.
However, tourism still faces many difficulties and challenges. The number of international tourists in the first 10 months of 2023 was only 69% compared to the same period in 2019 (before the pandemic). In addition, the tourism industry faces many challenges, especially meeting the increasing demands of the domestic market and competition from countries in the region and internationally.

The Prime Minister welcomed and commended the entire tourism industry for its efforts to achieve many positive results in recent times; at the same time, he also frankly pointed out the shortcomings and limitations of Vietnamese tourism and affirmed that in order to develop quickly and sustainably, the tourism industry needs to change its mindset, have a longer-term strategic vision, and develop properly as a spearhead economic sector.
Specifically, businesses need to work together to best exploit opportunities, identify and resolve difficulties, effectively exploit natural conditions and traditional cultural values of the nation into unique and attractive tourism products; tourism services also need to be regularly innovated and created; promotion work needs to be active, focused, and key, following the trend of the times in digital transformation and green transformation; it is necessary to build unique and special tourism products, professional services, simple procedures, safe, friendly and civilized destinations; development needs to be based on natural resources and human resources; create close links between industries, localities and businesses, between localities and localities; take advantage of opportunities to develop a comprehensive, fast, sustainable and highly effective tourism ecosystem... creating momentum for the development of other economic sectors, contributing to promoting the country's economic and social development.
It is known that this is the second tourism development symposium held in 2023.
