Opening the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh provided an overview of the political and economic situation in the world and in the country; the advantages, difficulties and challenges for the development of the economy in general and the tourism industry in particular.
The Prime Minister emphasized that in order for tourism to become a spearhead economic sector as set out, the Vietnamese tourism industry needs to truly innovate in thinking and working methods with effective measures that are realistic to the new situation. All levels and sectors need to clearly identify opportunities and challenges, share successful experiences and valuable lessons in exploiting and developing tourism; at the same time, they need to frankly propose feasible solutions, take advantage of opportunities and favorable conditions to develop tourism quickly and sustainably.

The report of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism at the conference showed that with the close direction of the Government and flexible and appropriate policies, tourism activities have gradually recovered, especially domestic tourism. The recovery and development of tourism has achieved some positive results.
In 2022, total revenue from tourists is estimated at VND 495,000 billion (up 2.75 times over the same period). Domestic tourists reached 101.3 million (exceeding the target of serving 60 million set at the beginning of the year). The number of newly registered and returning travel businesses in the tourism sector increased rapidly. International searches for Vietnam tourism increased by about 50 - 75% (the 4th highest growth rate in the world). Vietnam is one of the 3 countries with the highest growth rate in the tourism competitiveness index according to the World Economic Forum's rankings in 2021.
By the end of October 2023, the number of international visitors to Vietnam reached more than 9.97 million, exceeding the 2023 plan; domestic visitors reached 98.7 million; total revenue from tourists reached 582.6 trillion VND. Vietnam tourism has received many regional and international awards.

Tourism is considered a bright spot in economic recovery, having a spillover effect on many sectors, contributing to improving the three growth drivers of the economy: investment, export and consumption.
Tourism promotion and advertising work is being carried out by localities, departments and branches on a domestic and international scale with many diverse and effective activities, contributing to the development of national and local brands.
Digital transformation in tourism is focused on developing digital tourism platforms at the national level, as a basis for forming a unified and synchronized smart tourism ecosystem nationwide...
In addition to the achieved results, Vietnam's tourism still has many shortcomings and limitations such as: the recovery rate of international tourists is still low compared to 2019 and compared to the industry's supply capacity; there is a lack of flexible and competitive visa policies in the new context after the COVID-19 pandemic; tourism products are not commensurate with potential and strengths, and are still copied between localities; tourism human resources are lacking, especially skilled and experienced workers...
At the conference, delegates from localities, ministries, departments, sectors, and tourism businesses frankly acknowledged and analyzed the causes of the limitations that Vietnam's tourism industry is facing; shared good experiences and valuable lessons in the process of exploiting and developing tourism in localities.
Delegates also contributed many ideas and proposed solutions to contribute to the rapid and sustainable development of tourism such as: improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese tourism through convenient air connections in key markets; need to strengthen regional linkages, tourism promotion and advertising; diversify tourism products associated with the potential and advantages of the region and each locality; train quality human resources to meet the requirements of sustainable tourism development; raise awareness and culture of tourism for officials, people and businesses; strengthen coordination between localities and sectors in tourism exploitation and development...
Concluding the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that all levels and sectors need to change their thinking and approach towards a global and national level in tourism development; localities and sectors must coordinate more closely to exploit and develop tourism effectively; tourism corporations and businesses need to take the lead in investing in infrastructure; raise full and comprehensive awareness of the role of the tourism industry in the country's development, making tourism a spearhead economic sector, acting as a driving force for the development of other sectors.

Developing tourism in depth, associated with promoting the potential and advantages of each region, focusing on environmental protection, preserving cultural identity; paying attention to training high-quality tourism human resources, promoting the tourism human resources market; encouraging people's creativity, regularly innovating tourism values, building branded products...
The Prime Minister emphasized that it is necessary to implement the motto of building "unique products, professional services, simple procedures, competitive prices, clean environment, safe, convenient and civilized destinations" so that Vietnamese tourism can develop quickly and sustainably in the future.
Ha Tinh is a province located in the North Central region with great potential for tourism. To recover and develop the tourism industry, Ha Tinh has implemented many solutions, applied new policies to adapt safely and flexibly; urgently mobilized resources, carefully prepared facilities, human resources, products... at destinations to stimulate demand and restore tourism. In 2022, Ha Tinh's tourism targets increased significantly compared to the set plan. Ha Tinh welcomed 1.6 million visitors and vacationers (exceeding 200% of the target set for the whole year). In 2023, Ha Tinh continued to recover and develop tourism. In the first 10 months of 2023, the total number of visitors reached 3 million (up 20% compared to the whole year plan). These are positive signals, creating momentum to complete the goal of building and developing tourism into an important economic sector by 2025, gradually becoming a spearhead economic sector of the province in the coming time. |
