New Zealand's largest travel company House of Travel says Queensland, Fiji, London, the Cook Islands and Sydney are often top destinations for New Zealanders.

However, that has changed now as Hanoi, Tokyo and Bali are becoming popular.

House of Travel CEO David Coombes said: “We have seen a 130% increase in New Zealand holiday bookings to Hanoi compared to the same period last year, while bookings to Bali are up 32% and to Tokyo are up 11%. This reflects a shift in New Zealand travel demand as families become more confident in exploring new destinations where the New Zealand dollar (NZD) is a strong real value.”

The tour operator said Fiji remained a popular choice, offering New Zealand parents the chance to enjoy a great holiday while their children were entertained at popular kids clubs.

Mr Coombes said nearly 230,000 Kiwis visited Fiji last year, accounting for about 25 per cent of total arrivals.

Of those, more than 50% had visited at least once before, and about a third returned for a third or more times.

Mr Coombes said many New Zealanders felt Australia was a home away from home, with Queensland and Sydney popular school holiday destinations. Sydney has always been a city that offers visitors a wealth of energy.

With a packed events calendar and award-winning musicals, this is a must-see destination.

Meanwhile, Queensland offers family-friendly attractions, stunning beaches and convenient, easy public transport./.
