BTO - After 49 years since liberation (April 19, 1975), Phan Thiet city has risen strongly and developed continuously, shaping the image of an economic and tourism urban center, contributing to Binh Thuan's aspiration to become an economic growth hub in the South Central region.
A young city on the Ca Ty River
Forty-nine years have passed, and as April arrives again, every resident of Phan Thiet feels a special emotion and pride in the Liberation Day of Phan Thiet town – a milestone in history that played a crucial role in paving the way for the successful Ho Chi Minh Campaign, liberating the South on April 30, 1975, and unifying the country. Today, the young city of Phan Thiet is striving to develop day by day. The old Phan Thiet, in the memories of the elderly, with its narrow streets and dilapidated, simple houses, has faded into the past.
For nearly half a century, the coastal city of Phan Thiet has been transforming day by day, with noticeable changes on every street and every corner. Today, Phan Thiet boasts a new, more modern, and vibrant appearance. In its journey to become a Class I city by 2025, several key projects are being invested in and constructed, creating important highlights that will further dynamism and development opportunities for this young city on the Ca Ty River.

Phan Thiet City strives to build a positive impression on tourists, becoming a renowned destination on Vietnam's tourism map. Each year, the city attracts millions of tourists and is an attractive destination for domestic and foreign investors. Budget revenue in the first quarter reached 468,616 million VND, a 32.3% increase compared to the same period last year, placing it among the top performers in terms of budget revenue collection in the province during the first quarter of this year…
The transformation is also evident in the significantly different appearance of Phan Thiet. The transportation infrastructure has been comprehensively planned and expanded, creating a more open and convenient environment. Parks and urban facilities have been built to a high standard, providing more green spaces, cleanliness, and aesthetic appeal. Economic, commercial, service, and tourism activities are quite vibrant. Alongside urbanization, the city still retains its unique traditional cultural values. Ancient historical and cultural relics remain intact, cultural festivals and religious activities are maintained, and the people retain their genuine, gentle, and hospitable nature.
Urban planning and upgrading create new momentum for the city's development.
Phan Thiet's potential and advantages are being exploited more and more effectively, the city's appearance has changed significantly, and the lives of its people have improved. Mr. Le Van Chon, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phan Thiet City, stated that Phan Thiet City is implementing a plan to reorganize district-level administrative units, merging several localities from Ham Thuan Nam and Ham Thuan Bac districts to expand the city's administrative boundaries. The city is focusing on attracting investment and concentrating resources on urban infrastructure development, with numerous construction projects and the upgrading, paving, and concreting of many roads and streets, contributing to the expansion of urban space and creating a more modern and impressive appearance for the coastal city.
Priority will be given to using state budget funds to invest in urban beautification projects such as: Repairing and restoring transportation infrastructure in the period 2021-2025; Repairing and restoring city transportation infrastructure; Paving sidewalks on city streets; Upgrading Tran Quy Cap Street; Renovating Van Thanh Lake in Phu Tai Ward; Embankment along the Ca Ty River from Le Hong Phong Bridge to Tran Hung Dao Bridge, on the Trung Trac Street side…

Mr. Chơn added that the City People's Committee is organizing the preparation of detailed plans as a basis for implementing investment projects to beautify the urban area. Specifically, they are preparing a detailed plan for the Tiến Bình residential area in Tiến Thành commune (approximately 40 hectares); preparing a detailed plan for the Hồ Điều Hòa area in Hưng Long ward, as a basis for resettlement of households living on the seaside of Lê Lợi street and other areas in the city, and serving the development of tourism, commerce, and services. They are also preparing/adjusting detailed construction plans or new urban designs such as: the central Lê Duẩn – Nguyễn Tất Thành – Lê Lợi road axis to become a vibrant commercial, service, tourism, and night-time economy center; the Nguyễn Thông – Nguyễn Đình Chiểu – Huỳnh Thúc Kháng road axis; the area along both sides of the Cà Ty river to beautify the river and its banks; and the coastal area (area requiring exploitation and management) to create a spacious beach and enhance access to the sea for local residents and tourists...
The urban area south of the Ca Ty River (Tien Loi commune) is being developed in a modern direction, with appropriate and harmonious building density, linked to creating land for resettlement of the people... In the coming time, the City People's Committee will continue to invest in upgrading and developing more parks, public areas, entertainment, and sports facilities, aiming for a green, clean, beautiful, and civilized environment. The green parks and wetland ecological areas on both banks of the Cai River will be renovated.
