Establishing 5 food safety inspection teams for the Lunar New Year

The Central Interdisciplinary Steering Committee on Food Safety has signed a decision to issue a plan to implement food safety work during the Lunar New Year and the 2025 Spring Festival season.

According to the Steering Committee, Lunar New Year is a time when food consumption increases, especially meat, fish, eggs, cakes, candies, alcohol, soft drinks and nuts.

To meet market demand, many food production and trading establishments have increased their activities, but this is also a time when there are many potential risks regarding food quality and safety due to the effects of the weather (humidity in the North and heat in the South).

The implementation plan aims to protect public health, ensure development and healthy competition among food production and trading establishments, and at the same time control and prevent counterfeit and poor quality products and food poisoning during the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival 2025.

The Central Interdisciplinary Steering Committee on Food Safety will establish five interdisciplinary inspection teams and conduct inspections in 10 key provinces and cities: Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai.

The inspection teams will focus on products consumed during Tet and festivals, especially food groups with high risk factors, food processing villages, as well as provinces with border gates and large cities.

In addition to the interdisciplinary inspection teams at the central level, localities will also establish inspection teams from the provincial to communal levels to ensure food safety.

An important part of the plan is to maximize the use of communication channels to disseminate food safety regulations as well as knowledge in food selection, preservation, processing and consumption.

Central and local news agencies and newspapers will participate in communicating about ensuring food safety for both producers, traders and consumers during the Lunar New Year and the 2025 Spring Festival season.

The plan also emphasizes the dissemination and popularization of regulations on hygiene conditions of facilities, equipment, and tools in food production, processing, and trading.

At the same time, consumers will be instructed on how to choose safe food, how to process and preserve food properly, and avoid buying food of unknown origin or showing signs of spoilage, mold, or spoilage.

In particular, food production, processing and trading establishments will be informed about the use of raw materials of clear origin, permitted food additives and regulations on alcohol production and trading according to Decree No. 105/2017/ND-CP and related documents.

The Steering Committee also requested to mobilize all resources in society to participate in preventing and combating the production and trading of fake and poor quality food, and at the same time called on the community to detect and denounce acts of violating food safety.

According to the Steering Committee's request, relevant agencies need to encourage food production and trading establishments to strictly implement regulations on food hygiene and safety, change unhygienic consumption habits, and contribute to protection.

This implementation plan will be implemented from December 20, 2024 to March 25, 2025 nationwide. Inspection and supervision activities will be strictly implemented to ensure food safety during the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival season 2025, protecting people's health, especially in the context of increased food consumption demand.
