Carlos Alcaraz became the fourth youngest Wimbledon men's singles finalist in the open era (since 1968) after he defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in the second men's singles semi-final.
The Spaniard's next opponent is Novak Djokovic, this is not only a match for the championship cup but also a match for the number one position in the ATP rankings.
Playing under the roof of Centre Court, Alcaraz displayed deft touch and devastating power to become only the third Spanish male player to reach the Wimbledon final, joining 1966 champion Manuel Santana and two-time champion Rafael Nadal.
"It's a dream for me, playing a semi-final here and then the Wimbledon final, I still can't believe it. I'm going to enjoy this amazing moment," said Alcaraz.
It was really difficult to finish the match, I had to be very focused. Medvedev played until the last ball, he is a great fighter.
I have to show my best in the most difficult moments and play offensively. Always be yourself, I think that is the key to finish the match."
The world number one used the drop shot effectively to overcome Medvedev in the Indian Wells final in March, and he used the tactic again on grass in London when he found his opponent often standing deep at the back of the court.
The top seed produced 27 winners, broke Medvedev's serve six times and repeatedly wowed the crowd in a dominant performance that lasted one hour and 49 minutes.
With his 46th win of the current season, Alcaraz has equaled Medvedev's record for most wins on Tour this year.
The 2022 US Open champion will be aiming to overcome the No. 3 seed when he faces seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic in the final.
Alcaraz and Djokovic are 1-1 in their head-to-head matches, after the Serbian beat the Spaniard in the semi-finals of Roland Garros last month.
"It will be very difficult but I will fight," Alcaraz said when asked about facing Djokovic. "I believe in myself and I will believe that I can beat him here.
Djokovic hasn't lost on this court since 2013, so it's going to be a really tough challenge. I've dreamed since I started playing that I'd play a final at Wimbledon, especially against Djokovic.
This is the final, there is no time to be scared or tired, I will try my best".
