TPO – A rare monitor lizard has just been released into the wild by authorities in Bach Ma National Park, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien-Hue province (TT-Hue).
On July 2, Hue City Forest Protection Department coordinated with Bach Ma National Park to release a rare clouded monitor lizard into the natural environment of this national park.
Previously, this monitor lizard was bought by Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hieu (residing in Thuy Van ward, Hue city) from a stranger.
Through the media, Mr. Hieu realized that this was a rare wild animal, so he reported it to the authorities to voluntarily hand it over and expressed his desire to release the animal back into the natural environment.
After receiving, Hue City Forest Protection Department will conduct health check, care and carry out related procedures.
The clouded monitor lizard (Varanus nebulosus) is a rare forest animal belonging to group IB according to Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP dated September 22, 2021 of the Government on amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree 06/2019/ND-CP dated January 22, 2019 on management of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals and implementation of the International Convention on Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
This is a rare animal species that is protected by law and is strictly prohibited from exploitation, use, sale, and consumption in any form.
According to the TT-Hue Forest Protection Department, since the beginning of the year, forest ranger units in the area have received, cared for and released dozens of rare and endangered wild animals into the natural environment.
