During Tet away from their families, the navy soldiers are still optimistic, love life, and firmly guard the sea and sky of the Fatherland.
Navy soldiers celebrate Tet with teammates by their side and family support
Early in the morning of the new year of At Ty 2025, officers and soldiers at the DK1 platform cluster - "Vietnam's sovereignty landmark at sea" woke up early, performed the spring flag-raising ceremony, then participated in many Tet activities.
Although the weather in the middle of the remote islands is very cold, warmth, faith, and optimism are still spreading. "Here we have comrades, Tet has banh chung, brothers sing, the atmosphere is bustling," Captain Nguyen Viet Tung shared over the phone on the morning of January 29, while working on the DK1/9 platform.
When asked about his New Year wishes, Mr. Tung expressed his wish for good health and to complete his assigned tasks well. On the rig, besides the veteran faces, there were also soldiers in their twenties. Celebrating Tet away from their families, right from New Year's Eve, their relatives called to ask about them and wish them a happy new year.
In the spring atmosphere, Senior Lieutenant Le Xuan Quy said that the soldiers on the rigs work in harsh weather conditions, surrounded by strong winds and waves. Despite the difficulties, they always put the task of firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland first.
This Tet holiday, the rig has pork, chicken, fresh home-grown vegetables..., ensuring the health of the officers and soldiers. They also eat banh chung together, wrapped and cooked directly on the rig, in the middle of the ocean. In particular, many Tet gifts have braved the rough waves and strong winds, sent from the mainland to the soldiers, bringing more joy and peace.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today the North East Sea (including Hoang Sa sea area), South East Sea (including Truong Sa sea area) and the sea area from Binh Dinh to Ca Mau will have Northeast wind level 6-7, gust level 8-9, rough sea, waves 3-5m high.
Amidst the joyful atmosphere, the marines did not forget their duty. "As long as there are people and platforms, we are determined to firmly protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands," affirmed Senior Lieutenant Bui Thanh Hung of DK1/9 platform.
Play tug of war, compete in making banh chung, and celebrate Tet happily
When Tet comes, the navy ships are also bright with apricot and peach blossoms. Uncle Ho's altar is warmly decorated with fresh flowers, cakes, jams, fruits...
On the morning of the first day of the year, Senior Lieutenant Pham Van Cong said that he and his teammates had just finished saluting the flag. Then they participated in Tet activities. Before that, the ships Truong Sa 01, Truong Sa 02, Truong Sa 16, Truong Sa 21... competed in wrapping and cooking delicious and beautiful Chung cakes. Many other events also took place, helping the officers and soldiers to be more cheerful.
Amidst the loud noises at Brigade 125 (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), Senior Lieutenant Ngo Viet Chien shared that he and his comrades were participating in folk games such as ball throwing, tug of war... and military games. Work hard, play hard.
This Tet, Chien's main activities took place on the ship. He only went ashore for group games and flag salutes. For most months of the year, he and his teammates were far out at sea, on duty to guard the sovereignty of the country's seas and islands.
Greetings from a distant island
In the middle of the big and rough sea, standing on the helicopter pad of DK1 platform, Senior Lieutenant Bui Thanh Hung smiled and shared: "On the occasion of the beginning of spring, let me send my New Year's greetings to all the people, organizations, and brothers on the mainland for a new year filled with good luck, peace, and prosperity.
At the same time, I would like to send my comrades' relatives and my relatives at home a healthy new year. Rest assured that we are here to protect you firmly so that you, comrades, brothers and friends, can have a warm, happy and joyful Tet."
"The soldiers on remote islands, on oil rigs and on the continental shelf wish the students good health and good studies," Captain Pham Tien Dung said.
