Students in Ho Chi Minh City prepare to enter the New Year holiday
Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that based on Notice 402 dated December 7 of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on hanging the national flag and taking a holiday for the 2024 New Year, teachers and students, along with civil servants, public employees, and workers of the city, will have a New Year holiday on January 1, 2024. This means that students will have 3 official days off due to the addition of 2 weekend days.
However, according to school principals, students complete their semester exams at the end of December. At the same time, according to the school year schedule, this is also the end of the first semester, so some schools can arrange for students to have a final semester break at this time.
For example, Ms. Nguyen Doan Trang, Principal of Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), said that on December 26, all students from grades 6 to 9 at the school will complete their first semester exams. On December 27, students will participate in experiential activities. Then, on December 28 and 29, teachers will grade the exams, so the school announced that students will have these two days off.
Thus, students of Nguyen Du Secondary School will have 5 consecutive days off (including 2 weekend days) on the occasion of New Year, starting from December 28 to January 1, 2024. Students will return to school on January 2, 2024.
For international schools, the break is longer than 10 days due to the combination of winter break and New Year's holiday. For example, the Canadian Bilingual International School (BCIS) sent a notice to parents that it will be on winter break and New Year's holiday from December 20, 2023 to January 3, 2024. Students will return to school on January 4, 2024.
