Tay Ninh: Ethnic minorities continue to promote cultural identity, integrate and develop

With the theme: "Ethnic solidarity, democracy, innovation, promoting cultural identity, integration and development", the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities in Tay Ninh province, 2024 officially opened.

Attending and giving a speech at the Congress were Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman of the Ethnic Committee Y Thong, along with representatives of the Departments and units under the Ethnic Committee; representatives of the Ethnic Committees of Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai provinces.

In particular, the presence of 250 official delegates representing nearly 21,000 ethnic minorities with 21 ethnic groups in the whole province attended the Congress.

Tay Ninh is located in the Southeast region, with a border of about 240km, bordering the three provinces of Svay Rieng, Tbong Khmum and Prey Veng of the Kingdom of Cambodia, with 3 international border gates, 3 main border gates, and 10 secondary border gates. In addition, the province is also a bridge on the trans-Asian axis between Ho Chi Minh City and the capital Phnom Penh (Cambodia) through Moc Bai International Border Gate.

Tay Ninh province has 6 districts, 2 towns and 1 city; 94 communes, wards and towns (23 of which have a large population of ethnic minorities). The population is 1,174,652 people (in 2023), of which ethnic minorities are 20,835 people, accounting for 1.77% of the population. The whole province has 21 ethnic minorities living, most of whom live mainly on agricultural production, animal husbandry and have accessed science and technology, and converted crops, so their lives are relatively stable.

Speaking at the opening of the Congress, Mr. Nguyen Hong Thanh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Congress Steering Committee said that the Congress program will take place over 2 days, December 9-10, 2024. On the first day, the Congress will take place with activities of exchanging folk games, culture, arts, exhibitions displaying cultural products, typical cuisine of ethnic groups; visiting historical and cultural relics, and scenic spots of Ba Den Mountain.

The second day officially took place the Congress of Ethnic Minorities in Tay Ninh Province. The programs and activities were organized enthusiastically and vividly, showing the traditional cultural beauty of ethnic minorities, being a festival of exchange between ethnic minorities and truly becoming a festival of the Great Unity of the ethnic groups of the province.

“Through this Congress, ethnic minorities have determined to join all classes of people in the province in implementing well the ethnic policy and Great National Unity, determined to compete to achieve many specific and practical achievements contributing to the completion of socio-economic development goals and targets for the 2020-2025 term and welcoming the Party Congresses at all levels and the 12th Tay Ninh Provincial Party Congress”, emphasized the Head of the Congress Steering Committee.

According to the Political Report at the Congress, in the period of 2019 - 2024, programs, projects and policies for ethnic minorities have always received attention from Party committees and authorities at all levels, directed, implemented fully, promptly, and to the right subjects, ensuring the right goals and plans and achieving many important results, contributing to economic development, improving living standards, and reducing poverty quickly and sustainably in ethnic minority areas.

Implementing the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minority Areas in Tay Ninh Province for the period 2021 - 2025, 7/10 component projects have been implemented with a budget of over 46.4 billion VND. Of which, construction and installation of equipment for water supply stations and transformer stations have been carried out to ensure the centralized supply of clean water to nearly 300 Khmer households in Hoa Dong A Hamlet with a budget of over 3.3 billion VND. Construction of crematoriums and auxiliary works for Khmer ethnic people and hardening of road To 11, Hoa Binh Hamlet, Hoa Hiep Commune with a total budget of over 7.6 billion VND.

Supporting equipment for Hoa Hiep Commune Health Station with a total cost of 197.9 million VND... Upgrading and renovating auxiliary facilities for Tay Ninh Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities with a total cost of over 7.7 billion VND... By the end of 2023, the whole province will have 2,083 poor households and multidimensional near-poor households, accounting for 0.65%; of which, there are 16 poor households and 48 near-poor households of ethnic minorities.

In addition, improving the material and spiritual life of ethnic minorities is also emphasized. The movement of national solidarity to build a cultural life is widely deployed. The work of preserving and promoting ethnic minority cultural values ​​is of interest, many customs and practices of ethnic minorities are researched, collected and restored...

The Deputy Minister and Vice Chairman of the Ethnic Committee also suggested that Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front, and socio-political organizations continue to study and raise awareness of the Party's viewpoints, guidelines, policies, and the State's laws on ethnic work, great national unity, and ethnic policies; continue to disseminate, thoroughly grasp, and effectively implement Conclusion No. 65-KL/TW dated October 30, 2019 of the Politburo on continuing to implement Resolution No. 24-NQ/TW of the 9th Party Central Committee on ethnic work in the new situation.

Promote sustainable poverty reduction, new rural construction, improve the material and spiritual life of ethnic minorities, effectively implement 3 National Target Programs, especially the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the period 2021 - 2030 in the province. Pay attention to implementing policies well, promoting the role of prestigious people, village elders, influential people in clans, dignitaries, and religious officials in building and defending the Fatherland, consolidating the grassroots political system. At the same time, the province needs to pay attention to preserving and promoting good traditional cultural values, tangible and intangible cultural heritages of ethnic minorities; building a civilized lifestyle, cultural life, and eliminating customs that are no longer suitable.
